If people say that to you, its because you act like such a pathetic individual that they feel they need to offer you consolation to make you feel better about yourself. If you are actually happy with yourself, it will be observable to others that you are happy with life and don't need their words of encouragement or a relationship.

Stop wallowing in your own self pity and people will stop pitying you and start treating you like a human being.
