I just have to tell somebody! (27)

I just confessed yesterday to a girl that I've been good friends with up till now.

It was on the subway platform, halfway to her home. We were talking all the way there - then continued a little bit when we got off the last train (she still had to take another one). And I confessed.

I had wanted to tell her the day before too, when only the two of us met up after she had a class trip to Kyoto. Ideally it was going to be only the two of us - but she ended up calling one of our other friends to join us. Apparently she had no idea how nervous I was.

So bad to yesterday - she was the one who wanted to talk/complain. She had a bad run in with a mutual friend and just wanted to let it out on somebody. Me.

So... basically, I chose the day that she was complaining about a friend that we both aren't too happy about to confess to her. Plus it was April 1st. I realized that halfway back on the train, hoping that she wouldn't think it was a prank or anything.

This evening, she said "yes"!!!!!
OH MY GOD I was soo relieved.
You might think that I'm such a chicken for being so nervous to confess.. But the last time I confessed to the girl, she started crying and ran off on me. and we never talked after that.

Generally confessing is a bad idea unless you know 100% certain that the other person feels the same. And even then, don't use the word love etc - just say "I like you" level of things.

Good job! That must have taken a lot of guts.

Good luck to you guys~!!

Yea she had a reaction. Well it took a while - actually, to tell her that. I can usually communicate well enough in everyday life in Japanese, but we usually talk in English. So when I said "I like you", I had to add the word "a lot" and then when she still didn't totally get it "more than just a friend".

I bet I was burning red.

She was shocked at first. Then asked me if she was turning red, and couldn't stop holding her face after that. But she didn't/couldn't give a straight answer right at that time. She said she was really happy, but wanted time to think about it.

I couldn't pay attention in any of the four classes the day after. But she said "yes" so now I'm all happy happy.

After she said yes, she told me that she realized too after the confession that it was April 1st, and really wanted to ask me if the confession was a prank, but she didn't. and I didn't want to email her that night and make her feel pressured or anything.

yea like 9 said. I was confessing. Partly because - apparently in Japan if you don't confess you become an even closer friend, but if you do that for too long I feel like I'll run the risk of becoming a permanent 'girlfriend' and never be looked at as a possible relationship material.

All I said was "I like you... a lot.... more than just a friend..." hahaha I was so nervous.

We were really close, she was the closest to me in the group of friends we hang out with (like it wasn't weird to hang out with just the two of us) - that was another problem.. if she said no, then that's pretty much the end of my friendship with.. my group of friends here lol.

OP here.... that's what I am on this thread, right? (I don't even know what it means)

...WELL...
i'm the first bf in her life. Plus I'm a foreign boyfriend. Imagine how hard it must be to tell your parents that you're dating for the first time in your life - and a gaijin at that.

Anyways... she's been wanting to tell her friends about it too. But all of our friends are having problems or trouble. So finding the right time to tell is hard..

PLUS... because we've been going out everyday for the last week... Since last Friday to this Saturday, she inevitably gets home late. and because of that, she's got a curfew now... a CURFEW!

since she lives far away, she's gotta be on her way home at 8pm everyday!

sorry i had to complain...we're going out today to watch cherry blossoms, though. ^____^

I feel angered that you get to have the cheesy anime relationship that I thought never existed.
Also congrats

lol... a curfew at 8pm!!! How old are you guys?!?!

But so sweet nonetheless.

21 Name: Secret Admirer : 2008-04-05 12:32 ID:Heaven

Nono not a curfew at 8am, but she has to start leaving at 8am as there is a transit time.

hahaha yea, i know...I couldn't believe it when I heard it.
I'm 21, she's 20. So a curfew at this age uhh... SHOCKED me a bit.

I haven't had friends with curfews for at least 6 years... didn't know what to say.

yea there's so much going on right now that it's like confusing both of us.

Her mom doesn't seem to mind.. but her dad. Well i'm the first boyfriend of his daughter. Plus I'm a gaijin.

Scary...

lol a curfew is actually sweet thing even at 20. It means that she has a good family education. As old-fashioned as this may sound, you're a lucky guy finding such a girl today... Treat her well and don't worry about the gaijin thing. Her parents will accept it, just continue to show them how much you care for her. And respecting her dad's 'curfew policy' is step #1 :)

Congrats to you and her. Wish you a happy relationship and whatever comes out later.

Thanks, 23.
I'll think about it more and hopefully will learn to appreciate the fact.

Yea it's going pretty well even with the curfew I think. At least it forces us to take things slowly, which is probably better... right?

Depends on how experienced you are... My observation has been with two inexperienced people, slower is better. One experienced person means things can move a little faster, since there's no first relationship awkwardness with one party.
