I'm watching Boys Be... (it's an anime...look it up)...and in one episode, a guy is being taught by a girl how to land a date. The funny thing is that before, he always used reference manuals (like Dr. Phil) to determine personalities. However, with each attempt, he ends up dumped before a date ever occurs. He eventually lands that girl's friend on a date, but fails when she finds a picture of that guy and the girl. Although he didn't land the girl promised by the reference manual, he was able to start a new one with the girl who helped him out.

I don't have a similar experience, nor used a reference manual, nor watched "luvey-duvey" films that make girls want to cry. I was able to land my girl just out of friendship; no one helped me, didn't ask how to make the situation easier.

So...I like to ask...did some of your guys/girls use such things like reference manuals, lots of friends, TV shows, etc. to get the person you love...or did any of you were able to do it through pure ambition?

I think the media can be very counter productive by sending messages about how relationships should be. I had quite a few instances where I had to explain the girl I was not going to behave in certain ways she wished just to conform to her stereotyped media spoon-fed romantic ideals.

Personally I drew experience from relationships I saw around me and pesonal experience, although of course I was also influenced by what I read and watched.
