a few days back i went to a restaurant with a couple of cousins. the girl who seated us at the tables looked really cute. all me and my cousins did were talk about how cute she looked. while we were waiting for our food to be served she did go by the table a couple of times, and each time i smiled at her and she smiled back too. after a while she approached me and told me that i looked familiar and asked me whether she and i have met before (my heart literally jumped out of my chest), since i don't do too good when talking with girls, all i did was stutter out a jumble of words ending with a no. after she left my cousins convinced me that she maybe had an interest in me. so after we finished eating and paid the bills, i wrote my number on a tissue (i was able to do this much also due to my cousins cheering me on) and gave it to another waiter and asked him to give it to her. (i know its pretty lame, but i really didn't have the courage to face her or any girl that i find cute for that matter). after a while she did call me, and we kind of got introduced, and since she was working she asked me to call back after a while. after about an hour i sms'd her, and i did get a reply for about 6 messages but the replies just stopped. the next day also i sms'd her and i did get a couple of replies, but after that nothing. so i'm beginning to think she isn't interested in me at all. and maybe the "have we met before" thing was just an all too honest question. i really need help in figuring out whether she is interested in me at all, and if so what would my next move be?

The solution to both problems is one and the same; Ask her on date.

the thing is, i don't come from the same cultural background as her. what i'm saying is i'm an outsider in this country. i'm just doing my studies here. i have a feeling she might turn me down because i'm an outsider, so i'm abit reluctant to ask her out.

What country are you in?
Also, the only way is to say...
"Hey, I like you! Let's go and do ... some time or other!"

Your logic is backwards. If you ask her and she turns you down, then you don't have a date. If you don't ask her, then for sure you don't have a date.

What are you waiting for? Even more spoonfeeding? She already made the first step, and answered your sms. Will she have to come by you and drag you into a date? Just show a bit more of initiative, and arrange a meeting with her. The way you explain things, she already did a lot of work, it's time for you to shoulder the rest of it.

Look at it this way, you have two options:
Ask her out, or don't ask her out.
If you talk to her and she agrees, woohoo!
If you talk to her and she declines or you don't talk to her at all, the outcome is the same. You gain nothing and you lose nothing.

> i have a feeling she might turn me down because i'm an outsider

Or she might agree because you're an outsider. Maybe she's intrigued by your foreign accent or dark skin or deep blue eyes.

Do it! If she had no interest what so ever, probably wouldn't have called to begin with.

You have nothing to lose my man

yeah, i guess i should ask her out. well, it's too late for today anyway, so tomorrow i'll see if i can do that. got to work up the courage to call her and ask her (i'm really really shy when it comes to talking to girls, even on the phone... hehe..)

thanks to all for the advice.

I think you should ask her out man! I mean like Secret Admirer said, if she says no, not a big deal. Then you wont have to waste your time on her.
