I don't know about the media, but I've noticed too often that people think that they have to be with people, or preferably have a harem of people who desire them, to be worth more than some loser. Which is efficiently tossing aside a lot of very important accomplishments. "Hmm? Say what? You won the Nobel prize? But then again, I get wayy more pootang than you! Oooh, burn!"
I don't like it when people choose to focus on a single feature rather than looking at people holistically. For instance, a plain guy who gets a fuckload of chicks because he manipulates them a lot is seen as better than a nice guy (who's only had a few dates albeit tons of friends and does well), by too many people. There are too many people who never grow out of this attitude. It worries me greatly.
