Untranslated manga (95)

Here's a chance to complain about all the awesome manga that nobody's translating! I'll go first, because I LOVE complaining!

* Cloth Road. Story by Kurata Hideyuki of Read or Die fame, and art by Okama (http://okama.nicomi.com/). Runs in Ultra Jump.
* Propeller Heaven by Tomizawa Hitoshi, who did Alien 9 and Milk Closet. I love both of those, and I really want to read this one. Kotonoha has given some indication that he may do it. Also from Ultra Jump, I believe.
* Discommunication, by Riichi Ueshiba. His later manga, Yume Tsukai, has been at least partially translated, but his previous long-running (some 17 volumes in all) manga Discommunication remains untranslated. Ran in Afternoon, info here: http://www.kodanclub.com/cgi-local/comic.cgi?id=009-00096-01-013

i for one would really want to read something that gives you tips & tricks

maybe they could feature a famous wanker every chapter who shares his techniques etc.

oh, and also i want something about people who compete about who can spit the furthest, that would be awesome

All that, while very droll, falls into the category of "be careful what you wish for".

Hello.
Im japanese.I have some question.
Will you buy " manga comics" that is written by
Japanese minor manga writers(including DOZIN)?
and,
How much do you spend money for such a manga book?

51 Name: Random Manga Otaku 2006-02-16 10:16 ID:ibAAkt4R

I dont know

It's very hard to buy doujinshi outside of Japan. Some events in the US have people who buy them from Japan and re-sell, and there are a few place to buy online, but mostly it is very hard. Personally, I don't live in the US, which makes it even harder, but I did get a friend to buy some yoshitoshi ABe books for me.

Untranslated manga is not very popular, and only really big fans will usually buy them. Of coures, with ero doujinshi you don't really need to understand the text, so those are a bit more popular.

× DOZIN
○ doujin

>53

You don't need to mind it.
There are already tons of scanlated (translated) doujinshi on the net.

55 Name: Random Manga Otaku 2006-02-17 13:50 ID:Heaven

>>53-54

Kunrei-siki romanization puts the word as "dozin". Waapuro romanization is "doujin". Waapuro is the most popular among English speakers on the net, but Kunrei-siki is quite popular with Japanese speakers.

>>53, where would you sell it?

56 Name: Random Manga Otaku 2006-02-18 04:53 ID:neg4n2Zp

>>54 scanlated site I checked now.It make me sad.
But thank you for writing.
>>55 We will buy them in net and send the book.non-digital.

Im surprised to see "Waapuro"....

Don't be too discouraged. Scanlations are produced because there's no other source for a translated version. When a commercial translator announces that they purchased the rights to a manga, scanlations usually stop. Unless it's a very popular series like Naruto, where you have a large number of people who can't wait for the translated volumes. There is a market for non-digital translated manga.

I would like to buy funny, high quality doujin(dozin?). A few volumes of Comic Party anthology comics were translated years ago, and I was sad when I learned how many volumes were left untranslated.

Tankouban(tankobon?) manga volumes sell for $10-14 US dollars in North America, so I guess I would expect a price in that range. I don't know about other formats. Do you mean you would translate individual comics or collected volumes?

>>57 Thank you!
We will negotiate some writters who make original douzin manga, and issue them translated for magazine.
But it is just a plan now.
We have some probrems.
A copyright,cost,and price.
So,Which Do you read? original manga or
parody like that(NARUTO for example)
http://i15.ebayimg.com/03/i/04/b8/29/84_1_b.JPG

But,"parody"has some probrem about "copy writing"...

poor English...Sorry...orz

What kind of writers are you going to get? Find native English speakers please :v

Now, about copyright: As long as you are selling from Japan there is no problem with copyright, because in Japan of course anyone can make doujin, and nobody pursues copyright across borders. But if you go to an American anime con and try to sell there, you might get in trouble.

Doujinshi production may not be allowed in the United States.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_Pirates

As for cost and price, manga in the United States usually cost $10. You could try $20 but that would significantly drop sales.

I'd like to vioce some complains too.

*Hanafuda and "Roll Playing Simulator School" from Okama are still untranslated. I'd especially like to read the second one as it seems to overflow with that particular energy that distinguishes his illustrations.

*Anything from KYODAI Nishioka.

*And Same Hat should really do some more Kazuichi Hanawa. He's great even though his manga are really revolting.

Isn't there someone reading "NEGIMA"and "rabuhina"?
It is very popular in Japan.

Those series are translated. Too bad they suck.

64 Name: Random Manga Otaku 2006-02-20 01:58 ID:Heaven

>>62
Ah, "Love Hina." I had to say it outlound before I knew what that was.

That was my favorite manga. Finished reading it a few years ago.

I need to catch up on Negima. And don't forget "Ai ga Tomaranai" ...although, that wasn't a hit in Japan, was it?

65 Name: Random Manga Otaku 2006-02-20 05:56 ID:xSuaKi0K

AI ga tomaranai is unpopular because it inserted in

There are a lot of people who know LOVEHINA.
But "ai ga tomaranai"is not popular well.
I think it is Nice Story,,,
"ai ga tomaranai" means "LOVE doesn't stop!",Did you know?

By the way,
NEGIMAs theme song is very very popular in Japan.
Its name is "Happy Material".We call it "Hapimate"!
When there is a chance,,,,,,,Please listen!

>>65
Very very regrettably!
But it is good story,,,

I read that Negima's theme song was purchased so much it should be on the Japanese Top 10 charts.
But, the music industry was afraid and censored it.

Negima is very popular right now. Love Hina also was, but it's faded a bit now that it's older. I have read Love Hina, and I liked it a lot.

Tenchi Muyo and Love Hina were the introduction to manga love comedies for a lot of people here.

Everything by Shintaro Kago, he is an amazing and insanely talented guro mangaka.

Also, Karuma Tatsurou's stuff is really funny, like the best moments of Dr Slump sent to a porn dimension.

Here is the only translated material by Shintaro Kago I ever came across (consider yourself warned, though, this is violent stuff, also "adult situations"):

I thought this kind of manga is a taste of otaku.
