I think this might be the wrong place to be posting this. (This is the manga section)

Anyway, hi. Hope your English studies are going well.

English is the superior language to Japanese because we only have one alphabet!

But then, Spanish is even better.

There is, though, a board called "Language" below here, you might want to try posting this there.

spanish is better? i really don't think so.
where i'm from, all i hear all day is mexicans speaking spanish all day, it's so irritating.

i bet spanish could have been so much better had they not colonized most of latin america, leaving these people speaking nothing but spanish.

I speak Spanish and learned English as a second language in the US. I love Spanish and I enjoy being able to speak other languages. I am trying to learn Japanese. Any language is unique and beautiful in its own way. Shall we say the America speaks English due to the English colonizing the north part of America. Otherwise you would be speaking Spanish too. :)

Listen people, even though spanish is a totally gay language and we all know it's second to die after french apparently it's true since futurama said so. I just wanted to tell you guys that English (Eigo for watashi no nihongo tomodachi desu.) is the largest known language used in the world and I believe that if mcdonalization happens then we will all speak english one day ... Perhaps... That is if Orgin Culture doesnt die.

12 Name: Random Manga Otaku : 2008-04-22 12:27 ID:Heaven

How is McDonalds going to take over when Taco Bell buys them out.

13 Name: Amerikajin : 2008-04-23 02:48 ID:2tcAFbpU

First of all Taco Bell isnt real mexican food. Second of all Mcdonalization is a term used to describe the western world's spread of everything. Everything is becoming more and more western. Which is why they used the word mcdonalization because mcdonalds is pretty much everywhere in the world. Sorry that that this isnt about manga lets change the subject.

So may I do the question about manga?
I do not understand the meaning of a certain lines when talked in comics.
I want a person speaking English as a native language to teach a meaning.

15 Name: Random Manga Otaku : 2008-04-23 19:50 ID:d+voMrQk

>>14

>>15
thank you.

There is a manga called "black lagoon" in Japan.
It is the manga that it did on the stage of Thailand.

A chief character is four people.
There are three human beings of American nationality in a chief character.
A Chinese-American,A Jewish-American,An African-American and A Japanese.
There may be much slang, and there are the lines that I cannot understand.

He said in the scene which four people survived from a battle.
four people survived luckily.
"Amen,halleluyah,peanut butter."
It is an African-American to have said .
What kind of meaning is it?

I am not good at English.
Can we perform mutual understanding?

17 Name: Random Manga Otaku : 2008-04-24 07:37 ID:d+voMrQk

"Amen" and "Hallelujah" are words used in the Christian religion. They come from the Hebrew language, and are commonly heard in the Christian church.

Amen means "Let it be" or "Truely." After someone says a prayer, you say "Amen."
Hallelujah means "Praise God" or "Let us praise God."
Peanut Butter is a popular American food eaten on bread. It is made from peanuts and oil. It looks like this http://www.slashfood.com/media/2006/01/peanut_butter.JPG

"Amen, halleluyah, peanut butter" is an irreverent (joking) mix of words. He is "Thanking god" with humor.

Well, i'm brazilian. I think japanese superior because have kanjis and the people can comunicate, english is hard to comunicate, don't have all words like portuguese.

33 Name: Random Manga Otaku : 2008-12-24 12:37 ID:Heaven

> I think japanese superior because have kanjis

You fail. That's the only flaw with the language.

34 Name: :D : 2008-12-26 17:43 ID:Ag/hjRm0

If you grew up with english, it's easy to communicate in english. Most other languages just have a completely different grammer structure.

35 Name: Kei90 : 2009-01-04 09:00 ID:naBug1Yk

I'm from Indonesia, and the language is using alphabet too, so we're not hard to learn english. Altought my english still low, I think I can understand quite.

Otaku-san, ganbate~ne in learning english, I know that quite difficult, but if others can do it, you can do it too!

BANZAAII! \(>_<)/

actually you are not really forced to use kanji, since you can just write in hiragana/katakana. but then you should use spaces to make it more readable.

37 Name: ururu : 2009-01-19 05:38 ID:xhzeXhY2

english is so much easier than japanese..
kanji characters are horrible > <
and all words sound the same (聞いた、来た、着た????)

i'm living in japan now and i get stressed out because of the language barrier
gambarimashou yo

BTW Kei90, i'm indonesian too

I've known a few people online from around that area, and they all seem to use exclamation points (!) like crazy. Are Mongolians always excited or something?

for us Japanese, english words often sound the same (read, lead / break, brake)
Japanese can tell 聞いた from 来た naturally, but cannot "r" from "l" lightly.

take it easy !
otagai gambarou (^^)/~~

a way to learn the difference between r and l is to listen to a lot of english(or any other german language, spanish works well to)

41 Name: OMGitsPat : 2009-06-04 02:21 ID:JWZfoPpL

im philipino when i was little i accepeted a lot of japanese customs becuz of tv dramas. see back when i was young on t.v. they had alot of japanese dramas and koren dramas i watched a lot of japanese dramas (alot of them were very funny) and eventually spoke japanese broken. but when i moved to amerika it was hard to learn but when i got it down i noticed something. i think it is more easier to write in english because it has one alphabet with 26 letters but its hard to get it grammerticuly ( like sentence structure) correct thats what makes it hard. i think japanese is easy to speak becuz it dosent have the sentence additives (like preps, adj, adv, conj, verb sub agreement, etc.)but writing is hard becuz they have 3 alphabets and kanji is fubar with like the 100,000 symbols and counting

Spanish won't do; The english and the spanish R are very different. The english R is closer to the french R. Spanish actually has two R sounds.

One of them is exactly the same as the japanese sound, we maigh call it the "Soft R". It is the sound in "María" an in "yaranaika".

The second R sound, the "strong R" is rolled very strongly. It is used at the beginning of any word starting with r (e.g; "Rosa"), and is also the sound represented by two rr together in a word (e.g. "Carro"). I believe i've heard it in the japanese language when they feign a strong foreign accent.

43 Name: Random Manga Otaku : 2009-06-05 02:42 ID:ImSbXnvC

Forgot to add this; the american english also has the soft R sound of spanish, but actually, it replaces a t sound. The sound of the capital t in "i'm noT a puppet" might usually be pronounced as the spanish soft R sound.

But yeah, try listening lots of english. British english would be a good start; it's way easier to understand than american english.

All japanese students study American english but not British. British english have pretty strong accents compared with american.

Learn English in a Scottish/Irish dialect.

47 Name: Random Manga Otaku : 2011-04-22 23:13 ID:g+iSACkY

I studied British english, but it's only important for written works. Speaking wise, I think each country has their own accent, but I find it easier to understand American spoken english than others due to accents.
