Early metal and proto-metal is the best! Captain Beyond, Black Sabbath, Blues Creation...
Stoner metal is fun. High on Fire is excellent!

Jimi Hendrix.
Don't listen to any of the posters so far. They are wrong.
Check out The Black Dahlia Murder, Dark Tranquility, and At The Gates. That's a bit more appreciable than the commercial shit they have been trying to feed you.

Ever wondered where the word "metal" comes from, when talking about music?
>>10
dude! tell me! I am also want to know!
>>10
Where the word metal comes from does not matter.
The point is that Jimi Hendrix IS TOTALLY NOT METAL.
And certainly not metal with "thrash riffs" like Arch Enemy. If the OP wants to listen to bands like Arch Enemy, he/she does not want to listen to Jimi Hendrix, or any other crappy old school rock.
>>10 Another theory is has it linked to the original British Heavy Metal bands coming from Liverpool, which is full of metal refineries. I remember listening to someone fro Black Sabbath or Judas Priest talk about listening to the metal banging all day long, as his school was right next to a foundry.
Anyways, I reccomend Iced Earth, Therion (the newer stuff, Black Sabbath, Slayer, and early Metallica (like Ride the Lightning)
So, what it really comes down to is that Hendrix's music has no definitive genre or group. Each person who's listened to his music has his own opinion. It can be blues, psychedelic, heavy metal, whatever.
>>15
Yeah, but I was just talking about one of the possible origins of the term.
And I am still convinced that everyone that listens to lots of disto-guitar based music should give Hendrix more than a shot.
There's no doubt in my mind that Hendrix influenced many heavy metal bands that would come after him.
Slipknot
>>18
Isn't Slipknot is grindcore? Enlighten me if I was wrong...
>>19
They actually are, but its a different slipknot, not the mainstream one....
