i've always love playing drums. however, my dad said that drums are noisy stuff and that they are not an instrument. i disagree. do you agree?
drums are an instrument
without drums, who would keep the beat?? Ofcourse they're an instrument.
Your old man's just trying to keep you down. That's not rock 'n roll, man!
People who can count to four over and over in their head?
Drums are definitely instruments though.
When I was a kid I wanted a drumset. So my parents got me a used one. At first I was excited, but when I first started to look over the set I noticed a few problems, aside from the copious amounts of rust. First of all I had 3 snares, 1 had hole in batter head and another had a broken snare wire but can be replaced. The kick drum lacked spurs, so when I tried to put my 1 rack tom on, it tip. The Hi-Hat pedal was none responsive and it extremely rusty. I felt that it was better to replace than try to fix it because it wasn't worth saving. The cymbals were utter garabage. It was like banging two rusted trash can lids together. Those had to be replaced. When I told my dad of what need to be replaced, he said he will not pay for it because he already paid enough for the kit. And he wouldn't take me to the nearest store because it was too far away. So I had to play with what I had. I learned a bit from it, but after awhile the chaos of me trying to learn on a piece of shit sucked the fun out of it. So I just stuck to tapping my fingers on a desk and occasionally bust it out to see how well I progressed. Senior year I asked my mom if I could get a new kit because I out grew that one (it has been a good 8-9 years since I got it). At first she didn't want me to, but I struck a deal that I will forego my graduation party (really hers becaues she invites all of her friends and use my graduation as an excuse to party). I got a nice intermidate level set with Zildjian cymbals, played the hell out of them on the first day, had to get new heads by the end of that week. I joined a few bands, just for fun mainly. Recently I found out that my first set didn't cost them any money and infact on my mom's friends gave it to her because her son moved out a long time ago and she need space in the garage. And my mom told that she wanted me to play the guitar and she hoped by playing a trashy, clunky thing, that I would swtich. Never happened.
Your parents are assholes for doing that. That's completely selfish and underhanded of your mother. Cheapskates!
>>6 Yeah, but in a band, everyone in the band can be couting to four at different paces, thus causing chaos.
of course they are.. lol
Only if the band is a complete and utter failure.
Plus, there's a lot of music that's not in 4.
Ever new drummer now plays that hair metal (fragon dorce) and emo (hawthorne heights) style and it sucks. No one jams out anymore. All drummers need more jazz (art blakeley).
And let's not forget Drum n' Bass. Without the drum bit in that genre, there'd only be bass, and that would fail.
art blakey is the fucking man. you are right, emo kids don't know how to do jazz style of drums. meaning they don't know how to play.
drums are instruments! i'm a percussionist so i understand the whole learning to play it all. go xylophones too=] fun to play. i do like playing jazz on a set. its easy to improv it=]
Buddy Rich all the way, baby!
As for new stuff, I'm really impressed with the drumming on the new Boom Boom Satellites album. Nothing flashy, just really solid stuff.
