Fuck Facebook (6)

You know to be honest I'm really tired of all these profile sites that seem to be not only becoming household words but have taken my days hostage. You know I realize in my life that these places have never lead to anywhere healthy in my life. But I'm begining to think I'm the only one.

What happened to calling people when they wanted to make plans? Well not anymore, apearently facebook has become the worlds only means of invitation and planing. No it has become the worlds only means of communication. Even "txt" messages aren't enough anymore.

Its gotten to the point where I can't even get rid of it for fear of the fact that I may never know what any of my friends are doing ever again.

Its become so ingrained in my head that, I check it before checking my email, or downloading random crap, or gasp posting on forums. Which feels like going to a 5 star resturaunt and Gunning down 2 king sized snickers bars before you eat a steak. You know your gonna wanna throw up by the end of dinner.

And nothing pisses me off more then relationship status. Its annoying!!! I don't give a fuck. It causes so much drama. I start to feel like a gossipy middle school girl. Frankly I don't want people to know half that shit about me, but when your profile looks bare people get the idea that you're anti social and need to be saved. I.E. the myspace syndrome.

I miss when Aim was the only way people communicated on websites and the only people who had a "profile" were emo kids on Xanga.

Maybe I'm just bitter that the internet became such a boring place since everyone and their mother (literally) got involved.

I don't feel any elitism about Facebook. The privacy is nice. The relationship status thing is upsetting and a foolish drama causer but it's useful to see if you're not barking up the wrong tree with someone.

One thing that annoys me is having to turn your whole life into metadata. I'd rather live at least somewhat undefined. And ideally I could keep an address book of all my friends and birthdays, and never have to jump over to look up their information. But it is so useful in basic ways that I can't delete my account right now.

Although, I'd like to point out for the sake of conversation that "privacy" as a feature is an oxymoron. By providing info to Facebook you are necessarily giving up privacy. What you want is control over who sees that surrendered information.

I've never ever used Facebook, and I'm proud of it. I guess we're just two people in my class of 30 who don't have a Facebook account. And you know what? I'm doing just fine. I've never felt the urge to expose my whole life to whoever wants to read what I just bought online or what I'm doing at this exact moment.

Facebook, in my eyes, is nothing but an online networking site with lots of functions, a nice interface and shitty privacy conditions...that went popular beyond belief.

Just try to go a week without logging on to Facebook. I don't know if you can make it if you've first started using it, but you might find that it's really nothing vital to your life.

I have facebook but no information about the account is real. Even the email address I used was a spamgourmet.com account. My name changes every couple of weeks. Once upon a time, I was Andrea Buse from Old York, Tennessee or Faikep Erson from 123 Real Street or Elizabeth Alexandra Mary, Queen of Wails or George X Bush from Bangladesh, Texas
