I recently heard that backpacks are considered to be otaku wear in japan. When I last went to japan, i took my backpack with me, but backpacks are normal in US, everyone uses one, right? Was I inadvertently giving out the wrong impression in Japan that I'm an otaku? I mean, I am an otaku, but if i'm going to another country, I don't have to advertise it. Should I go back to a messenger bag?

Yes. Messenger bags are the "thing" in Japan because they are more stylish, and everyone in Japan is ten times more subconscious than in America.

I use messenger bags, not because I'm an otaku but because I like the way they look/work. Just use whichever you like better.

Yes, subconscious. There are customs and traditions embedded so deeply within the collective Japanese psyche that they may be very difficult to unravel, thus effectively making them a central motivation for most, if not all actions. Need I spell it out for you? Or is your attention span too short for your constipated thought process to shit more than "lol" every time you object to something?

No.

You said that the people in Japan were more subconscious than Americans, not that their subconscious dictated their behaviour. There is a big difference.

Also, I don't know who >>6 was.

It's the same as saying ocean animals are wetter than land animals. I do not see the distinction.

Who could not love backpacks!?!?!?!? I have been shocked into a state of complete cultural confusion.

messanger bag -> hurt one side of your shoulder, makes your posture imbalance (lef or right downed)

backpack-> give balanced weight for both of your shoulder, make you "bow".

got the idea?
