A man and a woman have been charged by police in Italy after they were found having sex in a confession box, it was reported Wednesday.

The Italian ANSA news agency said the young man and woman were taken into custody by police in the northern city of Cesena following a telephone complaint from a man attending morning Mass in the city's cathedral.

Authorities were alerted after a parishoner heard "rustling and groaning" coming from inside the confession box and pulled back the curtains to reveal a goth-rock couple engaged in oral sex, ANSA said.

The agency said the pair -- a 31-year-old laborer and a 32-year-old teacher -- defended their conduct saying: "We are atheists and for us, having sex in church is like doing it any other place."

However, Bishop Antonio Lanfranchi of Cesena-Sarsina took said the couple's behavior was "an outrage of notable proportions which bespeaks unutterable squalor."

He added that a special ceremony would be held to purify the confession box.

Cool! I'm gonna have to get my girlfriend to try that.

Is it more outrageous if you dress as a priest and a nun?

Try a priest and an altar boy.

Yeah baby...I am going to try that with my wife. I plan to fuck her right on the god damn alter! YES! I will worship my wife as a goddess and speak in tongues (which using my tongue). Then I will get a keg of beer and empty it onto the alter and finally pray for sexual powers from the furby I keep in the trunk of my car.

Rinse, Wash, Repeat!

Atheist and PROUD!

It's one thing to be Atheistic... but to be tactless, belligerent and lacking in any semblance of human decency or respect to others is abhorrent to the extreme.

If it were people praying in an Atheist meeting house, you'd be certain to see riots in the streets...

Catholics are not really Christian. They worship idols.

Why should atheists be offended? I mean to an atheist, a church is just another building with crazy people putting money in little trays and listening to Republican propaganda and feeling better as a result. My idea is no different than sex in a movie theater, or a fast food restaurant bathroom, or an airplane lavatory.

It qualifies more as a college prank really, but should it offend the non-Christians or the non-religious? Not really.

a church building is a place that people come to worship, it deserves to be respected

Not to atheists. It holds no value for us. To people who do not believe in a religion being practiced there, it is the same a strip club, office building, or any other building.

Depending on your political views, a church could be viewed as a reeducation center.

So what to athiests private property doesn't exist seriously this is like some people coming into your house and doing it. One of the reasons I think people hate christianity and some other organized religions and become athiests is because they try to impoze thier beliefs on others and proclaim how they are the only way of doing things. Isn't this similar? Why do people have to prove to each other that thier way of thinking thier feelings and reasonings are right No one cares.

I'd assume some of these people hold meetings, and that they don't do it by the side of the road.

They should be ashamed of sharing a world view with someone so simple as yourself.

I'm not Christian or Muslim or Sikh or Atheist or Moo Goo Gai Pan, but I'll stand up for the right of anybody to believe whatever dumb shit they want if it makes them feel better about themselves. And not be harassed for it.

I'm not at all religious, but I can still respect religious institutions and their members. Remember, for many people religion is how they fulfill a psychological need, and even atheists (who are human beings with the same needs as anyone else) sometimes need to do irrational things like...

>Atheist meeting house

...organize based on shared beliefs.

dont forget, atheism is a belief all in itself...

Who are you to decide? You aren't Christian of any sort, right? Who writes their canon law, certainly not you.

The fact that they were doing it in a church is irrelevant. The question should be whether it is OK to do it in public. I don't think it is OK because it would make children feel uncomfortable.

I do not think people are planning to have sex in front of children in public.

I think they weren't in plain view... since you aren't supposed to be peeking into confession boxes which are occupied anyway.

And so I see no reason children would be at risk... except from the priests and the institution that is the church.

Yeah...the Altair boys must be raped by an older priest before the eyes of God because god like to see little boys raped and little girls just as slaves by Israelis.

I am sure God and his POS son party with Emperor Bush II when they get the chance so they all can have gay sex in coffins full of mud and rape little boys. At least the Israelis like little girls given the faggot nature of the Republican boy rapers.

Is anyone else here reminded of 'Stranger in a Strange Land' by Heinlein in reading this? There is something wrong in society when people are using sex as some sort of weapon to prove their point by doing it in a church, as the 'goth couple' did, when sex is an expression of love between people, and something wrong when such an expression of love is deemed 'an outrage of notable proportions which bespeaks unutterable squalor'. I mean, do you want to be any more pretentious? Bah, I don't want to get into this sexual ethics caper, I need to sleep.
BTW, I lol'd at the 'special ceremony'. What do they have to do, clean of the cumstains with holy water?

outraged or not, you got to admire the couple for what they did. its just too funny...
