You're English is good. However, as a native speaker here is how I would have said what you posted. The way you put it is very close to how I would, but here are the differences:
"I'm sure that the English I learned is different from that spoken by authentic English speakers. And I was impressed by your steady, admirable ideas. For example, most of us Japanese don't consider going to the polls (electoral centers that is) as a duty, we just consider universal suffrage as a right we were given but is too much of a bother to excercise. It's too bad."
The way I said it is not necessarily the best, its just how I would have said it, your way is just fine. Like I said, you're doing very well with English, がんばって!私は日本語を勉強します!
