Life of nothing (38)

I'm not suicidal or depressed. Some of my friends with lives on or about the same level as mine are all emo and suicidal. I'm genuinely happy. It's just I do nothing and have nothing to look forward to in life. I'm going back to school in January but even then it's not for anything. I've finished my basic courses and have nothing in mind I'm wanting to do. It's just I'd rather be in school going nowhere then bored all day going nowhere.

I have no goals, no girlfriend, no desire for going through all that relationship crap just to get dumped again anyway. For the 900th time I'm here at work doing nothing and I see no future for myself. Nothing.

Perhaps with meditation you will reach further enlightenment.

I see what you mean. Its the same for me. I tried >>2 s advice. It doesn't work for me. How can you say you aren't depressed? it makes me depressed thinking I have no future and life has no meaning for me and in the streets I see lots people having FUN. Well it REALLY makes me depressed.OR maybe you are already enlightened with NO desires? :-X

Perhaps with drugs you will reach further enlightenment.

Try Salvia. It's legal, and I've been meaning to try it.

Write the great American novel.

What basic courses did you complete?

And how old are you?

7 Name: Anonymous : 2006-10-19 16:51 ID:sCUiNM9k

I have an associates degree. Currently I manage a bookstore. Basically my days are filled with old school video games (think Diablo II and Shogun Total War) watching loads of anime, and watching the History Channel.

I could write AN American novel but it wouldn't be very good.

I'm too old.

I don't honestly know why I'm happy other then I can't see what's to be depressed about. Two of my friends have attempted suicide in the last year over sappy emo stuff like, oh the boy I love doesn't like me. I learned to not care. Though it saves me from being depressed I now lack the motivation to go out and do anything and I'm bothered by my lack of goals and purpose.

Anyone break out of such a cycle?

Well go out there and DO something. Anything. What it seems like is that you have no friends and lack a desire to make friends. You can decide to make your life exciting, or you can decide to just sit there and wait for like death and old age to come on you. It's really all up to you. So if you're sick of your routinely life, then DO something. Go to a bar, pick up a girl. Even if she rejects you, at least you've learned something. Call up a friend from high school. Take a vacation and go scuba diving. Walk around downtown and check things out. There's so much you can do. You're just too lazy to.

Supposedly, it's pretty powerful stuff. I'd do some extensive reading on Erowid before I would try it.

well, it's powerful when the druggies want it to be.

Chewing it or making a tea out of it is supposed to be rather mild though. That's how the Native Americans used it for soul searching, and that's how I was planning to try it.

You seem to be taking a hedonistic view of your life, only judging it by the amount of pleasure it provides. If you are only bothered because other people have higher goals in life, ignore them (be yourself, etc.) If your bothered by a personal feeling that something is missing in your life, try reading some philosophy (you did say you managed a book store.)

I feel the same way most of the time, but when I go outside and see couples and think that could have been me snuggling next to that cute girl I feel like shit. So I just don't go outside.

i find life so boring and the same thing happens everyday..... sometimes i just feel like disappearing cos bringing so much trouble to people around me. sometimes i think its better if i dont even exist in this world

Yeah, I've thought that a change of venues might be helpful. Not leaving the whole world say, but leaving my current one. My friend has asked me to go teach English in Japan. He's leaving in May. Not exactly what I'm looking for but a world apart may be good for the soul.

I'm trying to read philosophy as suggested by >>11. Just got through one of Plato's 5 dialogues. He's a bit less morose then Nietzsche from what I hear. We'll see how things go. Thanks for the suggestions.

Travel, go backpacking around europe. Spend a year in costa rica or australia. After that, you'll know what to do.

i found myself feeling like nothing was going on so i decided to make something out of nothing. I make videos (art, music, etc) and post them on youtube. it's great to share what you make, and it makes me feel like i'm doing something for myself that's worthwhile. www.youtube.com/jdrw5

I am in similar situation.
Not sad, but, general apathy for life. No motivation to do anything. Dont really have suicidal thoughts either, but the idea of dying doesnt bother me.
dunno what's wrong.

I second that

24 Name: Anonymous : 2007-01-11 22:08 ID:twh/jzWW

I am the same way with life. As a reflection, I seem to be only coming out of "hiding" when a problem arises and no one wants to deal with, when its done I go back into "hiding". Like >>20 I am not suicidal but the idea of dying doesnt bother me. Reading the op lead me to think: Is there something wrong with me, or is there something wrong with the majority who does the same thing from thousands of years?

Pick an arbitrary goal and work as hard as you can to achieve it.
Whether it's reading 10 plays by shakespeare, beating the high
score on the local pinball machine, writing a short story, meeting
everyone in the bar one night, or masturbating 5 times in a day, just give yourself some kind of goal. The more times you try this the more likely you are to discover something that interests you.

I'm not >>25, but I felt it needed to be a bit more useful

i dont really mind dying, i sometimes feel that way, empty and all. sometimes when something sad happens to me, i will be "i wish it all ends" and I think about running away but then think again about my future and think again that it's no use in thinking about my future since i wont have one and think about other stuff and i cry, it's so stupid I know, but feeling empty might be worse than feeling depressed

Suicide is a misdirected attempt to change one's life situation.
Regardless of what it feels like, you are NEVER caught in the situation you are in. There are always thousands and millions of options (some may feel a bit drastic).

You need to identify what you dislike about your current situation, and how you wish it were different. What is it that you seek?
We'll try to help, as long as you keep enabling us to do so. GL, and please respond.

Also: If you do, bloody stop seeing everything bad that happens to you as a confirmation of your misdirected world view.

Then what the fuck would you suggest then?

Not everyone is as fortunate as someone who is better off. Not everyone is born equal. You can't simply write off someone if you never been into the person's shoe, your not the person who is experiencing the life of that person. I dislike how others quickly dismissing people if they ever have the slightest hint of suicide from them. Sometimes, you have no other choice but suicide. If you aren't happy, you simply aren't! Nothing is going to change. If the person in question confirms he doesn't like the world he is existing and no longer have any desire to participate in it, then there is nothing to change, there is no reason to. That person don't have a reason to exist. Nothing! Does he need to continue to suffer?

Suffer no more, there's option to exit!

Here is a popular pro-choice suicide newsgroup:

http://groups.google.com/group/alt.suicide.methods?hl=en

Atleast, knowing a way to exit is reassuring in the future if things get very worse and unbearable.

I won't suggest violence as a creative outlet, yet I am sooooo tempted. Jesus man go join the military or somethin'! Don't waste your PRECIOUS FUCKING YOUTH on these pissin in a pot thoughts. #32 is right on the money: LIVE FOR YOU...if you're not happy then, by god, MAKE YOURSELF HAPPY!

If you seriously have nothing to live for then you should do something dratic, as it is stated in here.

Army is one choise, its an institution that kicks you in to the nut repeatedly to get you moving, you have not other choise but to commune with people and survive. If you do this you will regret it in few points when your doing heavy exercises but in the end you can look back and see that you made SOMETHING happen, you managed to get past it with the rest of the team.

Its dangerous and might involve a war if you are living in US or another restless area. But tthen again, if you do nothing and grow bitter and start thinking about shotgun.... its a bad idea too.

You need a goal sit up and think... if you take out the "i cant do that, its impossible for me" and look over what you want to do, its very likely that you CAN manage it if you put your heart in to it.

The army is also dangerous because people who are too mentally weak may wind up thinking too 2d after such training.
Sometimes, but obviously not always, putting mentally weak people in such survival situations will fuck them up and endanger society. OP needs to make sure that if he decides to try it, that he will not turn into a nutcase thanks to any trauma he puts himself through thanks to the shock of the training.

#35 You have a valid point. As a former marine I don't need to be reminded of cowards like Lee Harvey Oswald and that dumbfuck that shot Dimebag! (both were former marines) The training and discipline (akin to that of marial arts) would help this fellah though. Hey! Why don't you take up Karate or Jeet kun do?? I've heard plenty of testimony from many martial artists who say that their respective style help them find their path in life. Plus, it is very constructive.

You could always become a monk! They want Nirvana. The end of self! Conscious pro-active destruction of one's ego! Go for it!
