Hooray Herpes (2)

So what exactly can you say when you find out someone you know has had herpes for like, the last two or three years? I mean there was a time when she and I had a mutual sort of interest, but this was many years ago. And since she's kind of clingy, I'm glad nothing came of it. In the meantime she's pretty much gone from one guy to another, with one of them being a rather long relationship. Upon coming out of that one (badly), she apparently got mixed up again with an ex, who passed along the herp to her (without her knowing, though he might have). Then instantly from that, she rebounded to the more current guy, which again has ended badly. Not to mention, he now has the herp too of course. It wasn't till she was talking to me about her troubles with him that I found out about it, and then was left kind of dumbfounded because she gave the "I thought you knew" sort of response. Not exactly the kind of thing I'd forget being told!

Whether it makes me an asshole or not, I can't help but think that she pretty much got what was coming to her from being such a skank and sleeping with one guy after another, while not using protection. And especially with an ex, which she has repeatedly told me is an idiot, yet she can't stand to be alone for five seconds to not go jumping back with the first man in sight.

I dunno. I guess it's one of those things I'll just pretend I don't know when around her, since I have nothing really positive to say to her regarding it, unless I start pulling out B.S. just trying to be nice. We've always had a "tell it like it is" sort of dialog between us, and this really fucks with that. Telling what I think in this case would serve no positive purpose, because I don't even really feel sorry for her. She's the kind that has to put her hand in the fire before she realizes it burns you, no matter how many times she's told that it's hot ahead of time.

So am I just an asshole, or is there any really positive way to look at it or react to the situation that I'm not seeing? One that doesn't involve bullshitting.

I don't think that you are an asshole. It isn't really something you need to talk about with her though, it's herpes, what is there to talk about? When you have got a cold do you discuss that? Someone might say "that sucks, take some Nyquil" and be done with it. Same with herpes, "that sucks, take some Valtrex."
