Stop drinking sodas, they're bad for your health.
You fail at life because you're a loser, get used to it (I did).
Play some video games and listen to Year Zero and you'll be much more happy.

Isn't the only way to really measure if a man wins or fails through considering "hey, is this guy generally content and knowledgeable or not?". And isn't that the same as probing whether or not the person is happy?

Winning at life is not money, job, education, physical appearance, asceticism, use of specific products nor refraining from specific products. I've never met a person who wasn't somewhat unsatisfied when lonely, so I consider us beings that absolutely need a social grid of some sort. But that doesn't mean many friends is equal to winning at life either, however.

It's pretty much a game about improving your character. It's very much a game of following your conscience, so that when you feel "I really shouldn't be doing this" you take action and avoid it, so as to also avoid feeling a sense of inner weakness for doing something you know is not being true to yourself.

And it's very much about independence, freedom to follow your conscience and to push toward the better world you hold inside your head. By following your conscience I might mean to have the willpower to stand up toward the habits you consider bad, for example.

I personally binge eat like hell sometimes. Not as often as I used to, which by the way has left its mark on me. When I've done so I've felt physically uncomfortable, stomach hurting, tiredness, wondering if I'll end up getting diabetes later. Will I be unable to get a job? What about a girlfriend? What if I end up like one of those people on TV, really fat and unable to get out of the bed.

Self esteem drops. You feel weak and unsatisfied with what you've just done. This goes for any addiction or bad habit that stands in your way. I've overcome serious porn addiction and MMORPG addiction in much the same manner: using my storages of willpower to carry through an action. Maybe a test the first time, to see if it really matters. Try laying off for a week.

Do I feel better mentally? Yes, every freaking time. Slowly I start feeling better physically too, but first I feel an upliftedness that helps me carry it out fully.

Sometimes a new addiction or bad habit comes along. It disturbs me, and probably for longer periods of time. But once I've defeated it using willpower the habit of avoiding it does not just disappear. It's like riding a bike. And eventually I've become much stronger and content than I was x years ago.

Which makes me content and more knowledgeable, since you need information to carry it through in a proper manner.

And makes me happy ^_^
