I have been saving up some money for a telescope and I finally bought one. It's something I had always wanted to buy. The only thing that bothers me is that I have spent so much money and time on it and studying but I have no one to share this with. None of my friends seem to be into it. I think having someone to share this experience (it's kind of a big deal for me, since I was a kid) would make it better. Do you ever feel that even though you surround yourself with good friends you still feel lonely. I wish I had a friend who'd always hang out with me. Like the kind most of my friends have. My shyness doesn't help. I think that's why my girlfriend broke up with me.

Well, as far as the hobby thing goes, see if you can get your friends interested. I've been interested into hobbies by friends, so eh.

If that doesn't work, just join an Internet webring or something. There should be tons for you.

Look for astronomy clubs in your area,... Could this be more obvious?

I read your post Friday night and for some reason, I woke up
Saturday morning thinking about it. In the last year, a close friend
of mine not only got into telescopes but also telescope photography.
(Astral photography) I called him up and asked him what was going on
with that and from what I learned from him, you should have no
problem finding someone to enjoy this hobby with.

It seems all kinds of people are into this sort of thing. He has
met doctors, scientists, engineers plus loads of computer nerds, ham
radio operators and aspiring astronomers and radio astronomers. A
lot of them are the same “shy” kind of people who suddenly open up
when they are amongst others that they have hit common ground with.
If “ it's kind of a big deal for me, since I was a kid” is the case,
then don't even let the opinions or actions of people who don't know
what you're talking about enter into the picture. You can't force
people to be interested in something but you sure can find some that
are.

I'm going to assume that you are stateside (US) and try to help
point you in the right direction. Type “Star party” into google.
(just as an example) My friend told me that these people really
throw down a fun weekend at their parties. They last all weekend and
everybody is eager to talk shop about scopes, optics, cameras,
software, computers, radios etc. They let you try out their
equipment and give good pointers. They sell all sorts of used scopes
and related parts at the flea market, which every party has. They
stay in touch with each other on usenet, IRC, IM etc. etc. I have
already seen some smokin' video of the rings of Saturn from these
guys. I'm going to one of the Star Parties this year just to see
what it's all about.

If your girlfriend left you because you're shy.... you simply had
the wrong girlfriend to begin with and it's a good thing you found
out before it was too late. There are people (both sexes) who just
LOVE shy people and it's only a matter of time...

Finally, you mention that most of your friends have friends who
hang out all the time. Did you ever stop and think that they might
be sitting around on their ass saying things like “I sure wish we
had something to do like Anonymous does”

Good luck.

I'd like to buy a telescope one day. I don't like living next to a big town though, theres a massive orange blur at night. I'd like to learn the constelations, I only know the plow, orions belt.

About how much will an average telescope cost?

Mine was $500. But you can find stuff under $100. Make some research before you buy one. Also, don't be fooled by "600x magnification". look into the aperture.
