HATING MY LIFE, BUT NOT BEING DEPRESSED (19)

Hi, people. I hate my life. I hate my whole entire family. We have never been close or loved each other for real. All my parents care about is my grades: if I do good they love me, if I do bad they hate me. I have been emotionally, physically, and mentally abused. I have no true friends what so ever and cut myself now and then. Even after all this I am generally a fun and happy person. I mean I never ever cry, I am not shy or afraid of people, I talk a lot, and smile a lot. Isn't this wierd and why is it Happeneing? Shouldn't I be depressed or somethig?

Some people just don't do depression. Consider yourself lucky.

Oh, and if the situation isn't work, do your damndest to get out as soon as possible.

You can always just let your parents know that you are a human worthy of your character, not your acheivments.

You are depressed, but your defense mechanism is happiness. You're screwed up in the head, but so is everybody else. We all have our own weird ways of dealing with the shittiness of life.

I can't really offer you any good advice.

What you parents are doing is called conditional love, the rational is that it's suppose to motivate you to do good, but instead when you do bad in their eyes all you feel and focus on is guilt. The same thing happens with religions that focus on sinning rather then doing good. Instead of getting upset and thinking about how unfair this world is, think about what you can do to make your situation better, like studying more. This kind of things is hard to do when you're depressed but it gets easier, trust me. :)

You have to be screwed up in the head in order to survive in this world.

Plenty of depressed people go around like this, pretending everything is okay.
I wouldn't say you necessarily are or are not, but stay away from self-medication if you aren't completely sure.

Do you just not feel close to your acquaintances or what? Be glad you're not shy, take advantage of that. A reason a lot of people in shitty situations stay stuck in them is because you get stuck in a rut of devaluing yourself, which makes you less approachable and cuts you off from a lot of opportunities.

I say try your best to keep up the good grades. If you can get a good enough scholarship, you might be able to get a job and reasonably far away school and remove yourself from any dependence on your parents. That would let them know that you'd only have to be around them if you wanted to and they may treat you better.

Either change yourself or change the people around you.

> change the people around you.

Since that's impossible, I suppose you'd have to go with the former option.

I don't mean completely. A friend or two will help a lot. The fact that you don't have any friends is because you are probably a person that naturally repels other people (or you simply don't try to make any). Compare yourself to a normal person in your class and see why you're different. Are you poorly groomed? Do you look emo all the time? Do you lack self-esteem?

If you don't want to change yourself to live like others, then find some people that are more like you. Of course, this is much harder and not always possible.

I guarantee you, after you find some friends that understand you you'll have a much better time getting through life.

It's not impossible. All you have to do to change the people around you is to meet new people. Though if that is impossible, I guess it can't be helped.
