Getting weight (27)

1 Name: OP : 2008-10-05 22:26 ID:5RU8hfVN

I got a big problem with my weight. No, i dont want to lose weight, i need to get some. I'm 19, 1,70cm and my weight is like umm... 43kg. I always had problems in my life because of my weight. Being so thin is even worse than being fat. Ive always been an outsider with no friends who was always bullied at school, so now im living a half-hikkikomori life as a loser without any self confidence. I just thought its time to change that huh... Now about eating - i can eat really much. Sometimes i really do so. Sometimes i do not feel any hunger. Sometimes i only eat 1 meal in a day. So if i want to get weight, i got to force myself to eat. Its easier to say than to do... Getting out of my room, going to the kitchen, making something to eat. Even if im not hungry. Its so much easier not to do that, just saying im not hungty, why should i eat anything? My goal is to reach 50kg till christmas. Im not sure if i can do that. Im not sure that i wont give up after one week. I need some good longtime motivation. Are here any people who got the same problem? Maybe it would be easier for me to reach my goal when some people try to get weight too, just like me?

Go for a breakfast rich in carbohydrates rather than protein. Make sure to have a lot of cereal (pasta, bread) in your diet.

Also, exercise is important. Being active will also increase you appetite.

Good luck.

there's me for one, but I'm shorter and a bit heavier. I totally can relate to 1 meal/day (sometimes 0), not being hungry at all or choosing to ignore hunger, to the point of me waking up, being totally relaxed but having the uneasy feeling this is due to abysmally low blood sugar.
Reminds me of this weekend; I seriously don't know what I ate Friday & Saturday, it probably boils down to an apple, a banana and coffee with much sugar.
Why's that, I don't know, but yeah, I'm with you. I'll try to gain 5 kg and keep it. Maybe we can use this thread for saged updates? (I'm relatively new on 4-ch, threads don't get deleted do they?)

Things I positively know that help:

  • walks (regular, preferably some hours, come hell or high water)
  • fried anything
  • company to cook/eat with

On a related note, things I'll have to fight against:

  • too lazy to go outside
  • too lazy to go into kitchen
  • being afraid of phoning people

Pasta sounds good. * off to make a big pot of pasta *

I'm rather thin as well. My usual daily meals consist of a sandwich (lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, turkey if it is available), possibly a banana, and more than likely a hot pocket.

The quickest way to gain weight is to eat fast food, but it is also the quickest way to a heart attack.

Look up anorexia and go from there

Work out, eat meat, crush enemies.

I am also severely underweight.

  • It's not anorexia because I don't try to consciously lose weight.
  • It's not about eating, I eat a lot of chocolate and fast food.

If you think we have a similar problem, in my case it's because of overly active thyroid gland. I've seen doctors about it, there are possible options like medicine or removal of thyroid but then you have to take hormones because a small amount is required.

However they said that I'm not unhealthy so the best option is to do nothing.

  • If you're female enjoy your model body?
  • If you're male, I found that with workout I can build nice toned muscles, but it must be done every day or every second day, otherwise the muscles disappear! Don't lift too much weight, I found dumbbells and pushups, or swimming are the most effective.

I'm taller than you and weight a bit more, maybe your case is more severe, so I guess ask a doctor, but have some doubts, don't blindly go for every possible treatment...

Talking to a doctor is the last thing i would do. I got some kind of social anxiety, so i cant just go to a doctor, or take a walk. And about working out... Im just afraid to lose even more weight if i do that. But still i could try to start eating as much as possible and working out a little every day.

Making updates is a good idea. This morning my weight was 42.2kg. Ill try to eat as much as possible for one week, so lets compare our progress then.

Carbohydrate rich meals, and 5/6 meals a day.

Aim for at least 2500-3000 calories a day, but try not to binge on junk.

Don't, for fucksakes, listen to anyone suggesting cardio workouts. Weights and slow pace activities like walking only.

Indeed, don't do aerobic exercise. Your meals should be mainly simple carbohydrates rather than triglycerides (complex fats).

Both brain and red blood cells rely on glucose as they cannot break down complex fats. If you eat complex fats they'll have to be turned into glucose and that's an energy loss.

If you eat carbohydrates they go straight into bloodstream, they keep insulin high and thus they are stored as fat.

OP I disagree with >>10 and >>11

Do you guys have the same weight problem or are you just trying to be smart?

I have the problem and I know carbohydrate rich food is not the good solution at all, at best it does nothing, but too much blood sugar can cause me headaches sometimes, and is not healthy.

I say go for protein... beans, soy, meat... those are the only foods I can gain some minimal weight eating.

And without muscles one can't lift weights, and walking does nothing.

> Your meals should be mainly simple carbohydrates rather than triglycerides (complex fats).

The exact opposite, in my experience.

Our bodies work differently believe me no matter how much grape sugar tablets I ate each day, none of it was stored as fat.

PS So basically I don't think we ever have a hope of storing fat, the only option to gain weight/shape is building muscles

10 here.

Beans = lotsa carbs too.

"And without muscles one can't lift weights, and walking does nothing."

So do what? OP needs exercise, but cardio will fuck his weight gain over and you need a decent carb intake to put on muscle in any worthwhile amount. So until he's eating right, low intensity stuff like walking or swimming to stop a flood of health problems related to high calorie intake and low/no exercise.

Almost all or all protein diets have actually been proven to help lose weight, Atkins isn't the only one.
Yes OP needs proteins, many, and healthy fats, but he also needs carbs. And you need the insulin response from carbs to effectively put on muscle and/or fat.

And to avoid the sugar rush, don't eat shit. Eat whole-grain, low GI and low insulin index food. Haribo and big macs don't help anyone.

This isn't a rant, but yes i have had to put weight on before, and before that i had to lose it...i just lost a bit too much.

I believe you were meant to quote >>12 and not me, for I agreed with you.

>Almost all or all protein diets have actually been proven to help lose weight,

The reason why the Atkins diet helps to loose weight is because of the low glucose concentration in the bloodstream proteins are broken down and turned into glucose. This also keeps glucagon high which results in break down of fatty tissue for gluconeogenesis.

Such diet has also proven to present a risk for health due to over production of ketone bodies which affect the blood pH.

Ideally, OP would do exactly the opposite to gain weight.

>Eat whole-grain, low GI and low insulin index food

Do this ^.

Wow i never thought about all that carbs, protein, glucose etc. stuff.
Just thought eat everything you see and you'll get fat. Most of my meals are sandwiches, potatoes and noodles. Thats my main group. Btw im at 44,5kg now and not at 42,2 like 2 days ago.

Wow you're fast. You might lose that kilos at the same rate, though, if you don't manage to build it into muscle (which can be quite difficult).
I didn't succeed quite that much, I never got to more than 2 meals a day (mostly just 1, today I might get to 3). I'm at 52 kg, which at least is better than the 50 kg I had last month.
The thing with all that carbs, protein, glucose etc. stuff is, that people tend to disagree a lot as this thread shows wonderfully. I just stopped worrying and usually try to eat what I like or what gets cooked by my flatmates.

>>12
True, walking doesn't do much for muscles, but it is outside, gives great appetite, is free (unlike a gym membership or swimming pools) and doesn't have to be social. I put swimming on second place, because it makes more muscles while being even easier on the joints, but because of my no-fat body I tend to be cold the moment I hit the water. It's just no fun at all.

I don't know conversions so I apologize. I'm 6' 1" and 120 lbs and I've been very skinny my whole life. I hate eating, if I could cut food out of my diet I would. I also don't know how to gain weight but I eat mostly cereal and pasta already.

I once had a doctor tell me to increase my intake of fat but I don't like fatty foods! How do I gain weight if I hate to eat?

OP, you still there? How's it going?
I think I managed 100g.

>>22
That's 185 cm and 60 kg, I think.
Do you really "hate" to eat? Is it because there's no taste that you like or something different?
I could try helping you on the first one. There are many things beside the greasy stuff...

Yeah im still at 44,5. Trying my best to get more.
