Is it possible to be too ethical? I was wondering what people thought.

I wouldn't say too ethical, but it certainly is possible to be too rigid about real world matters

It depends on what you define as ethical.

People tend to draw morality from one of two sources; religion or common sense.

I believe if you draw the idea of morality from religion, it is possible to be "too ethical".

nah, not religion. and not common sense either.......... i dunno.... kind of like forgiving someone who by no means should be forgiven.....

cause this girl spread multiple rumors about me for 2 years..... and is finally apologizing.... and i feel like forgiving her... when i asked people i knew, they all said it would be simple logic to do it back to her........ -_-' and with the people i know it wouldn't be hard at all....

is it possible to be fair?

define "fair" because by the usual definition of fair, i would show her apology letter to the entire school... because a letter i gave her 3 years ago she took and showed the entire school, so nobody was left out of the knowledge... i bet you can guess it, but it was confessing that i liked her... so if i was being fair, i would show it. but i know it wouldn't have the same effect showing an apology letter.....

>>6 umm.. well if you really dislike her, you can always pay back to her, as im more than sure you have been waiting for the chance or at least wished her bad as she did this to your reputation.

If i would be still full of hate, i would go for it and smash her, as she would feel then what it is like to be embarrassed in front of lots of people.

If you are a quiet person and really like her, do what your heart/soul tells you

i'd go with the hate, as im nasty bitch like this :P

Just post her letter on the internet in an anonymous fashion, but that clearly identify her for those who know her.

Ie on your blog or whatever post "I just got this letter from someone who hurt me a lot a few years ago [POST LETTER]. It's good that people can apologize like that, and I really feel like forgiving her".

This way:
1- you get back at her
2- you do it "more maturely" because you don't name her specifically so you get back at her twice
3- Fatality, you do forgive her and get out of here being "the good guy".

Might not work but probably will. Yes, I'm kind of a manipulative bitch.

And to answer the thread question: I believe that ethics and morality depends on common sense and are specific to a person, but should be questioned whenever possible from both ends of the scale, being as objective as possible. Then, draw your conclusions.

well i was never embarrassed. my rep was bad enough already, and i really don't care about my rep. i don't care what ppl think of me, but its just the principal of it all. but what gets to me is i said i liked her, so she turns into a bitch.... when she used to like me -_-'

I could just get it on my schools tv network.. i have a friend who knows how to do that... eh

im pretty sure i won't do anything... if i did what my soul says to do, i probly would forgive her. but when i think about it, thre is no way in hell i should.......
