[Gross]Odor, possibly caused by infection of some sort[Brewing] (34)

1 Name: Anonymous : 2009-05-28 22:13 ID:LBKPJeUH

Okay, this is probably kinda weird, but whatever. I've noticed that whenever I wear long pants (khakis are worse than jeans, probably because they breathe less), I get this weird (as in bad) odor originating from my thigh/groin area, as well as a weird sweat-like secretion from my inner thigh area (but thicker than sweat, and smells bad). I scrub the SHIT out of that part of my body every day (sometimes twice), but that doesn't seem to help at all. Seems to get worse as I sweat, which leads me to think it's some sort of fungal/yeast(al?) infection, and fuck that shit. WTF do I do? I read in some thread elsewhere a while back that cayenne/garlic is supposed to help, but I didn't get any more info than that. Anyone have any experience with this? Details like how to mix things, and how long it takes to work would be appreciated.

Bad, baaad idea! Is it too irritated?

Go see a doctor?

>>2
I don't scrub it THAT hard. Just trying to indicate that I actually practice hygiene, and don't just "skip" washing that area. Not incredibly forceful, just thorough.

>>3
No insurance, so I'm trying to avoid that if this can be solved by anything OTC.

5 Name: Anonymous : 2009-05-28 23:28 ID:Heaven

Hahaha, OTC looks like some drunk guy trying to piss like a dog.

.__. What?

6 Name: Anonymous : 2009-05-29 12:28 ID:mp2ZcIrq

Er...garlic is pretty fragrant stuff..I'm pretty sure someone was taking the piss out of you by suggesting that.

Is it a thick musty smell?
Because I think that's pretty normal B.O.

7 Name: Anonymous : 2009-05-29 13:11 ID:LBKPJeUH

>>6
Definitely not normal BO. I honestly don't know to describe the odor, but it's definitely linked to sweat-like stuff that comes out of my inner thighs. It doesn't just smell like "didn't take a shower", like, I can smell it 30 minutes to an hour after I get out of the shower, if I'm wearing khakis that don't breathe and get even the littlest bit sweaty. It also itches and is somewhat irritated sometimes, but like >>2 suggested, the irritation isn't really linked to how hard I wash it or not.

I find that some Gold Bond keeps it at bay, but it only does so much, and only lasts for so long. D:

Also, you weren't supposed to just wear the garlic around. XD It involved a mixture of cayenne pepper, garlic, and olive oil, all of which have fungicidal properties. I'm pretty sure the idea is to apply it on a day where you're not really going anywhere, and spend a good bit of time scrubbing it off.

I had jock itch for quite awhile. It eventually went away when I -stopped- aggressively scrubbing it and shaking powders on it and simply tried to keep it dry.

OP, have you considered going to a doctor? That would be the simplest and more efficient solution to your problem...

>>8
Hmm, I'll look into that. Problem is, I -can't- keep it dry. My work's dress code dictates that I wear long pants, which cause my legs (and inner thighs) to sweat. I can't really just pad my thighs with paper towels. :|

>>9
See >>4. No insurance.

11 Name: Anonymous : 2009-05-30 17:05 ID:/q3mkaqA

Hei OP! maybe you shouldnt wear these pants then? :)

12 Name: Anonymous : 2009-05-30 23:02 ID:Heaven

>>11

Dress code. I COULD quit my job, but then this would be the least of my issues. -_-

13 Name: Anonymous : 2009-05-30 23:41 ID:NNMbTpt0

then consider getting pants of a fabric that lets your legs breath better.

Oh I see...I thought the idea was to eat the garlic or something. Anyway, going along the same train of thought, what's your diet like OP?

I know some people use talcum/baby powder on their inner thighs and creases. Keeps you dry and stops rashes. Temporary fix?

>>14 i think if you are very fat and your thighs rub together you get this problem If this legs then i dont think this would be an issue.
Dont eat garlic, its nasty and scares girls/boys away from u..
Op, are you a boy or girl btw?
maybe you are allergic to these pants or maybe your hormones are making your body messy. Do you work out on regular basis and do you eat enough veggies/fruits etc?
zomg, too many questions, but we, anons, need to know, so spread it out :P

Don't know of jeans or khakis made of different materials, or I would. :p

>>14

That's what I do. My diet is fairly balanced, for an American anyway. :P Plenty of fruits and vegetables.

>>15

I'm a little overweight, but I'm not "very" fat. I'm male, and I know it's not an allergy because I regularly wear shorts of the same materials, with no problems at all. That also rules out hormones. It literally JUST happens when I wear long pants and get sweaty.

17 Name: Anonymous : 2009-05-31 17:34 ID:MtNnXI2U

If you wear boxers that could definitly be you problem trust me I was hiking and sweating all over the place and got a rash that I really don't want to describe while wearing boxers they actually can cause a lot of problems its thermodynamics at work switching to briefs will help if you sweat a lot. also there are light wieght nylon pants that look like khakis that are extremly comfortable get a loose fitting pair and wear briefs and you'll be good hopefully

18 Name: Anonymous : 2009-06-01 03:35 ID:mp2ZcIrq

>>16
You use talcum powder and it still doesn't keep the smell at bay?

That sounds pretty serious.

I know you mentioned you have no insurance, but even if it's not to see a dermatologist, perhaps a book in with the GP? The least they could do would be to prescribe you with a corticosteroid cream for the itch.

GP visits are subsidised in America aren't they?

19 Name: Anonymous : 2009-06-01 04:48 ID:/q3mkaqA

i think other material (natural) pants would do the work!

20 Name: Anonymous : 2009-06-01 12:58 ID:LBKPJeUH

>>18

Subsidized? What is this socialist nonsense of which you speak? :P
(No. You pay full price, even at a GP, unless you have insurance, usually provided through your workplace.)

Also, I don't know if I mentioned it, but there's really no itch. Just a little reddish, almost scaly (don't know if that's the right word, the skin just looks... tougher) spot on each of my thighs. There's mild irritation very rarely, but the only real issue is the sweat (it's almost more of a discharge than a sweat) and the odor.

>>17,19

I might try and find another pair of pants made out of a different material, but I'll definitely try the briefs. It's a little more support for the jewels too, so maybe I'll even start running again. I like the freedom that boxers provide, though. D;

Not the OP, but, If I wear polyester pants, there's a fish odor when I sit down.

25 Name: Anonymous : 2009-08-28 01:54 ID:2fkuEfgI

hello OP, how is it going btw? is the smell still there?

Haha, saw this thread get bumped out of nowhere, I had pronounced it dead months ago.

The underlying cause is still there, but I've learned how to control it. Apparently the reason the talcum powder wasn't working too well was the fact that I wasn't drying off well enough before applying it, and some of it was just absorbing the shower water, haha. I now let that part of my body "air dry" as part of my daily routine BEFORE applying the powder.

I'd still like to move past this, however, since it's annoying to have to do this every day I work (which is the only time I wear long pants), and the talcum powder has its own odor, if not much more pleasant than the alternative.

I've been thinking about trying a topical antifungal on the area, but don't know which to get. I know you're supposed to "talk to your doctor", blah blah, but I don't have one. :P If it really comes down to it, though, I suppose I'll probably go.

Try liquid clorophyll from a health foods store, it removes odor from feces and sweat glands (for real).

28 Name: 1 : 2009-09-04 02:51 ID:rh+LJeiQ

>>27

Hmm, interesting. I actually took chlorophyll a while back, but it's been so long that I don't remember the effects. Do you know if it's something that has to be continuously taken, or will one "course" of it do the trick?

OP here, I've more or less got this under control, I think it was a fungal/yeast infection of some sort. Tinactin powder worked like a charm.

I've got a worse problem now, though. D: One or two weeks after I dealt with this, I noticed some ongoing constipation (almost a week). During this period, I have apparently literally started smelling like shit. The constipation has all but gone away, but the smell hasn't. I can taste it in my mouth as well.

I was forced to quit my job over this, however I've got about six months' worth of money saved up, minus whatever I spend trying to fix this. Again, no insurance, so I can't go get a billion tests run. All of the stuff I've found on the internet about this (it's apparently termed "fecal body odor", ugh) is COMPLETE bunk, herbal this and "natural" that. All of the posts I've found about is are along the lines of "I've been dealing with this for 15 years, nothing works, etc etc".

Awesome, god hates me. :D

Hmmm... What is your diet like? Have you started eating something now that you didn't eat before? Maybe there's something you're eating that your body can't synthesize properly and so it generates really bad body odor... Because if you have constipation this is actually quite likely.

Also, are you a stressed person? Being stressed could be a reason to sweat all the time, like sweaty palms and so on.

33 Name: 1 : 2009-09-20 17:55 ID:rh+LJeiQ

I did go through some dietary changes during this, but it wasn't to anything I had eaten before, and if nothing else, it was HIGHER fiber, which should only prevent constipation!

I'm fairly stressed, and sweat a decent amount at work, but that's not new. The smell is.

Here in a week or so I'm going to follow the only lead I have, which is a 2-month "colon cleanse" followed by some sort of oral antifungal, probably oregano oil.

34 Name: Arabesque : 2009-09-24 06:55 ID:w7DBkwyv

Try eating less fiber-ish things and good luck with your treatment!
