what the f is wrong with studying hard? (15)

this course means alot to me, i like the content and so i study extra hard for it.

i know i'm not the smartest person so i put in considerable effort.

some friends and even my own girlfriend is giving me a hard time for being too 'intense' while studying and other crap about me being 'scary' when i study and nonsense like that.

it's not like i face my book all day without a break.

i just prefer to focus when i study and not go on MSN at the same time cos i can't keep my train of thought when people are IMing and i prefer to finish a whole chapter or section before i take a break.

how the f is that scary and what's the fuss about?! They're making me feel like a freak.

Probably because they feel guilty about not studying so much, and want to make sure you don't do it. In this way if they screw up they'll be sure that you keep them company, instead of outpacing them.

This is a very common attitude, and will only breed mediocrity, if you let it influence you.

On the flip side, make sure to be social, when it's time to be social, and specially avoid continuously canceling stuff using your studies as excuses. Be smart and provide alternatives that fit your working patterns.

I have no idea why that would be scary, how long do you study and what is your behavior like if someone interrupts you?

i'd say shrug it off for the time being. i just finally got into secondary education and it means the world to me, so im going to study everything top to bottom regardless because this is what i choose to do.

i doubt your friends and gf will do much but complain, if though they stop talking to you and ignoreing you when not studying well it looks like they arent worth being friends with.

anyway thats my two cents, good luck with the studies

Study by yourself. Problem solved.

Sounds like you're not telling the whole story. Are you being an ass to people who interrupt you when you're studying? Are you constantly going "FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF" as you read your books? Are you banging your forehead on your desk? Those would be things that are scary.

Don't take them so seriously.
It's like >>2 said, they probably just feel guilty about not studying as much as you.
I think it's important though, to have a balance between social and study life. Don't always neglect them, if that's what you're doing. But not using MSN is totally reasonable.

Just tease them back about being bad students, that should hit them right where their insecurities are and keep them quiet.

Or I suppose it could backfire and make retaliate even harder.

What are saying? I wish I could study hard.
Man, you even have a girlfriend...
Yeah, like >>2 said. They don't want you to do better than them.

Sounds like your friends are just lazy underachievers. Trust me, study now and you'll be well off 20 years from now. If you spend your youth stoned and drunk well expect to be filling gas or cleaning toilets.

There are even civilised countries where you can study hard, be one of the best and still doing shit thing for a living. Not in every discipline but still. And then, people who just happen to know someone will take job, that you would do better.

True..I know some people who have masters degrees and they still work for 20 dollars an hour. But even so, in the economy we live in, you can't make ANY money anymore without a degree of some sort, especially in engineering or math.

If you were really smart you wouldn't have to work so hard, bro~

Re-read OP's post.

As for your statement, only naive people say such things.
