i'm 21 and i feel so old, i'm still living in the past and now i lie about my age (30)

1 Name: max : 2010-03-22 10:00 ID:YVsTwGZH

i'm 21 turning 22 soon and i feel so old. Every little flaw on my face bothers me. Any wrinkle under my eye. I'm in total complete fear of aging. People think i'm 16/17 and for the past year or so i been living a lie and telling 90% of the people around me that i'm 17, meaning they think i'm turning 18 soon. Everytime i see a highschool student, or skaters or anyone younger than me playing i get so depressed and feel like shit. I cant help it. I feel like i'm never going to be that age again. All this is killing me. For the past 3-4 years now all i think about is of how it use to be when i was 15 or 16. Why cant i move on? Is this a quarter-life-crisis? This is really consuming my life. I even started dressing like how i use to and always try to look as young as possible. whats wrong with me? Is anybody else going thru this? I feel like i have to compete against these highschool people and try to look as young as them. Its very wierd i dont know what to do.

Dude...be happy you can lie about your age. I'm 24 but easily pass for 17 or 18. It means when you're 35 you'll look 25.

I wouldn't say it's a life crisis or anything. Yes, it sounds like you don't want to face reality and the fact that you're 22, but not much else. You need to bite the bullet and accept the fact that you're in your 20s now, and need to start looking toward the prospects of education, jobs, and so on. There is no sense acting like a teenager; you'll get no respect from either them or anybody closer to your real age. And then when all your 17 year old friends turn 21 themselves, you'll be even older and stuck in this mindset that you're still young.

You're 21, hit up a bar with some older friends and have some fun that way. Don't hang out with a bunch of juvenile teenage kids who don't know their head from their ass. You can still act, look and feel young in your 20s. I know I do.

Dress your age too, nothing more hilarious than seeing a 20+ year old who looks like soem 15 year old emo skater nigga boy.

Kinda in same situation as OP, except I just get along with it. I haven't buy any casual clothes since last 4 years. I dress my age though.

I just turned 22 two weeks ago, and I am still listening to late80s to 90s music mostly. I am also start watching movies of those times. I realize like there are so much things happening when I was a kid that I wasn't aware of due to vidya games.

Probably you just have to stay healthy because thats more important than looks.

We're both the same in age, it seems. As for me, people have, many times, taken me for someone older because I'm more of the quiet, observing kind.

So you're getting older. It's called my attention that you said you feel you're in some competition with teenagers... what are you competing for?

You're an idiot. The twenties are by far the best years of your life.

Hi, I'm 35 and single and I feel fucking old, I can't even pick up random femanons on chat sites or hookup threads anymore because I have to lie about my age. 19 year old semi-lolis dislike 30yearolds

:(

When I turned 20/21 I felt really old too. Now when I'm around thirty I realise how young I was. People feel old when they turn 35, and when they are 70 years old they again realize that they were actually very young back then. Not sure if the first poster still reads this, but don't waste your twenties thinking that you're "old", cuz you're NOT.

OK, it's just natural to have some sort of age-crisis before you get the actual quarter-life-crisis... after all, your life changes when you grow older. The changes are not necessarily BAD, but new thing are always new things and we worry and think about them.

I guess it's all about perspective. People should just enjoy life, really. It's not so long that you should waste it worrying about minor things. :)

thanks for the answers guy my 22nd b-day is 3 days away and i'm terrified. Its all i been thinking about this past month. For the person who asked why do i feel like i'm competing or have to compete with teenagers.. Well, i feel i need to look as young as them, skinny as them, have the same "cuteness" as them.. Just have that whole naive, crazy, teenage attitude. I'm not looking forward to getting older i'll say that much. I;ll always feel nostalgic about 2002-2006 I was in highschool, had no worries, skipped school and caused trouble. I;ll never be able to feel that FREE again. That youth. its just i miss it. :(

Wow this thread is a fucking joke. You can't miss being young when you ARE young. Piss off, seriously.

Dude, OP. I think you're fine. There's this manager at work, I thought he was 27 but he's actually 21 apparently. I'm 23 myself, 24 at the end of the year.

I always think I'm old too, but people think I'm like 20. I haven't felt like lying about it because I don't see a point. I do feel how I can't appreciate the things that people these days do though. :/

You're fucking dumb dude.

Teenagers are despised, don't try to act like one still. Your youth begins in your 20s.

Hey Max, I totally understand. I deal with the exactly same thing. Most people never will either, and many will even just get annoyed at you because they feel you have nothing to complain about.. Would be awesome if we could chat sometime.

You're just a fag like OP.

Calling someone a fag isn't exactly appropriate for a board about personal issues (Or is it!?) (no).

Please don't be immature like that. That is not constructive. This is a board for constructive advice, not name-calling.

Forget about the haters. So much silly name callin on the internet. Doesnt even bother me now. :P

I totally feel ya.

When I was out of highschool I missed it so much.

When I turned 20 and went and backpacked Australia, it was a blast! And when I was 22 I missed being 20.

I'm 24 now; Mid 20's :P
Now I try not to look aback and say "I wish I was younger"
I look forward and say "I gotta lotta shit I wanna do!". If you live in the past, then you'll turn 25 one day and say 'shit, I didnt do anything. I wish I was a teenager again.'

You have total freedom now you're a adult! But I guess you dont wont the freedom and responsibility that entails it lol

Come on, I am 30 years old and after years as a semi-hikki I returned to school. I'm 2 years or so into the process of getting a degree. I was in a community college honor society with a guy who must have been in the Korean war!

Really, grow up instead of trying to mimic kids immersed in the most tech-addled antisocial period ever. And this coming from a former hikki even!

Why did you suddenly decide to lead a normal life?

21 Name: Anonymous : 2010-05-15 17:11 ID:ggYkj0sS

>>20
Its better to experience something of the outside world, rather than just sit in front of a computer all of the time. Really, "normal" is something of a misnomer since many fellow students who are out in the world are pretty far from normal.

OP would be better off emulating more mature people. I have always had a great respect for the sort of wisdom which only life experience can confer. That's not to say you should act like an old fart, far from it, just don't try to be an obnoxious kid.

This is true. I was a hiki for many years, avoiding all contact with people beyond my two parents. I reached the age of 21 and decided enough was enough. I learned so much sitting alone in front of my computer, but never experienced any of it. I went to community college and took some film classes as my main interest is film (followed by politics and crap). I started writing editorials in a newspaper about African and Asian politics, and when I graduated found a job as a camera op/director of photography at a news agency.

There is much more respect in being a mature, intelligent, respectable person than a delinquent kid. You can still have fun. I'm 25 now and I'm all over the world with my job and still party it up. You don't lose your ability to do this once you become an adult.

A 21 year old lying about his age because he's afraid he's too OLD? Give me a break. I could understand if you were lying to pretend to be older...

Seriously, if you think that 22 is old, you really don't deserve to live.

26 Name: Ash : 2010-08-16 17:00 ID:czX1x8TI

I know exactly what you mean, max. I'm about to be 24,but I've got most people thinking that I'm 19 going on 20 even though I can pass for even younger. My reasons for doing this is my own way of "getting back" the 4 years I wasted in mylife by working instead of going to college, and I hate the thought of getting older, especially since there's so much I want to do that only young adults can do. I don't think its a crisis at all, it's just extending the best years of your life.

i hope all you fucking 20 year olds kill yourselves. seriously just jump in front of a bus.

I just turned 20 a month ago, and I know how you feel. I feel like I'm past my prime everyday, haha :/

29 Name: Anonymous : 2010-09-10 21:51 ID:p3g4PpNG

it sort of makes sense though 20's is generally when you're in college and thats when you have to start thinking about what you want to do with your life. It's easy to feel confined and afraid especially when you don't know exactly what you are going to do or even who you are. This feeling actually crippled me to the point that I stayed in my dorm room skipped almost all of my classes and pretty much failed in general for a whole semester and a half. But its not so bad getting older and everything you only have one life to live and there's no use being paralyzed and filled with regret. I'd expand on this more but I don't like posting huge blocks of text
