Whether or not to drop out from High school. (17)

Just a simple question on whether or not i should drop out from high school.
Anyone here dropped out or knows someone that dropped out?
How well did they do? and did they seem to regret their choice?

My reasons will be considered petty for some, so unless anyone wants to know i'll try to keep this short.

You will regret leaving education. Pleae stay in school.

I'd like to know. This is a pretty serious (and frankly, stupid) decision...what led you to considering it?

Based on my own high school experience and having friends who dropped out, I would have to say- don't drop out. High school is simple, you can just bullshit your way through the rest of your time left.

Plus, to be honest, I had a lot of fun in high school. It wouldn't have been the same had I dropped out.

I graduated a few years ago, and I'd be a damn liar if I said I didn't wish I could still pull into my high school's shitty little parking lot, cut class with my friends, and bullshit like that. Most people I know really look back on their high school years in good light, no matter how ready they were to get out of it while they were a student.

If you wouldn't mind giving us a little context to your story, please do.

Well, for starters, the only thing i feel comfortable sharing is the fact that i get stressed enough to get panic attacks whenever i'm at school.

I'm not sure about the reasons behind it because i have yet to see a psychiatrist about it.

I know this is a stupid thing to do, especially when it's my senior year of high school, but i fear that if i force myself to stay there, i might snap one day.

I've skipped so much school that it might not be my choice anymore.

Dropping out is only a good choice if you are going for a more useful alternative for yourself. But here there does not seem to be an alternative project, you are just giving up, so it's a pretty bad idea.

On the other hand, the question does not seem to be whether to stay in school or not, but how to solve the issues that are affecting you. The issue of dropping out is just an escapist confounder, not the real one you need to address.

You should definitely reach for some therapeutic help. Do you realize that you have a mental condition that is ruining your education and school life, and not doing anything about it? If you broke your leg, so that you could not walk and attend school, you would get medical help. If your mind is so broken that you can't function in school anymore, why don't you do the same? Wake up and start coming to grips to the notion that you are not in a normal state, and should not just let yourself go with the flow, specially when you're headed to the gutter.

It's never too late. I'm not sure where you go to school but I would suggest trying to see your school's councilor if it has one, they usually have good information and can lay out the options you have in a way that you will be able to clearly understand. I can also tell you that people who have a high school education make on average three times more than people without. My suggestion would be to finish high school, get a job, and see if you feel like trying for college in another few years. With the current economy I would seriously oppose dropping out of school, how long do you have left anyway?

>especially when it's my senior year of high school

OP, I hate to give you such bland advice that your parents, counselor, or even school teachers would give you, but don't drop out if you're a senior. It just isn't worth it in the long run. You're making a decision with short-term benefits (you'll be out of school in no time, so the luxury of not having to go to school wouldn't be very useful this far into your schooling), that has long-term consequences (sure, you could get your GED or just live without a highschool diploma, but it is difficult to argue that this is the better decision).

Go talk to a school counselor tomorrow and tell them everything that you've been going through.

While getting psychiatric help is undoubtly the best thing to do, the fact that i have barely any money and no health insurance, begs to differ.

I think my school ends around May next year? i'm not entirely sure.

My school counselor has already shrugged this off as another one of my problems. I have no idea what i did, but that women hates me.

I dropped out due to bullying, bad idea. A year of being depressed kicked.me back into education, and I'm glad I returned. Like someone said, have something to drop into!

Yeah >>1, I'mma have to stick with the other guys answers and say stay. It's not that bad, really.

I left for about half a year when I was in HS, and now I have to study the things I couldn't complete in high school at my university. Shit sucks, but at least I get a hundred bucks a month for being there, so it's all good.

Well, after much consideration and thought, i figured that i would not be dropping out of high school.

However, since my problem is with the school and not work, or some other things, I decided to drop my classes and take all of them online.(I'm failing all of them, so it's better i start over from scratch instead of trying to make lemonade out of charcoal)

Thanks for all the help everyone.
