Nobody deserves anything. In the long term, shit just happens because of processes too complex for any lone human to understand.

This goes both ways. You don't deserve to have an easy life or a tough one. You don't deserve to be happy or to suffer. If it happens, it happens.

The only thing any of us can do is make choices that we think will lead to a positive outcome. But when something happens, good or bad, blind luck is just as responsible for that outcome as our actions are. And so there's no point in feeling guilty that blind luck made your life a good one, for now.

Anyone who believes they built their own good life through their actions alone, and not an ounce of chance, is deluded. Anyone who feels guilty that their good life fell into their lap is just the flip side of their same coin.
