Surprised nobody mentioned this. Canada unlike the U.S encourages multiculturalism while the U.S is a melting pot. Immigrants are expected to assimilate in the crappy american culture.

By "multiculturalism" do you mean "refusing to learn English and sending all their money back to their home country?" Because California seems to be moving in the right direction.

Canada. Milk. Bags. It's the only difference.

>>56 sending our money back??? I'm an Immigrant and they fucking looted all my father's wealth. Student visa holders pay insane amount of money each year (20,000$ to 25,000$) with no loan option what-so-ever.
Immigrants who are more professional and have more experience are underpaid in lower jobs because "they don't have Canadian experience".
And the multiculturalism thing, Thought in Canada I really learned about respecting other races and toleration, whites generally look down on me, its much better than America where I am treated as a criminal and my finger print is taken when I go to visit my cousins, but still its unpleasant sometimes.
Only city in Canada I liked was Toronto. soo many new immigrants there that it feels a bit more relaxed, a really unique place.

as someone from canada:
-state-funded health care (dental must be and drugs can be privately insured)
-education is also financed by the government
-more parties (not saying more viable parties) that are more to the left of the political spectrum
-french and english
-politics, army, religion, guns, legal suits are less important
-I'd like to think the environment is more important...
-death penalty illegal, abortion & same-sex marriage legal
-less densely populated, colder, more snow, baggier milk
-less use of the phrase "liberal-biased media", lol.

I'd say overall (lots of variation over 20 million km2... I'm talking about urban areas only) the populations of the two countries are quite close in terms of lifestyle but have differing opinions about how society should be run. To put it succinctly, I notice differences when I read newspapers, not when I'm over there visiting. Except when they put me through detectors to make sure I'm not going to kamikaze. But that was right after the airplane attacks.

You're somewhat right though, it IS stupid to waste my time trying to speak with a walking bacterial colony.

> Chapelle

So, you think it's still 2003. I'd advise you to stop quoting the Rick James line now. Everyone hates you (including the drag queen you call your mother) and this does not make you funny.

> pissing in the wind

The wind is a poor analogy for the stale breath from your malnourished, herpes-lined mouth.

> your old man pounded the neighborhood stray thus giving birth to you.

It's still better than your heritage of being conceived in the rectum of an unconscious, hermaphroditic panhandler behind the corner drugstore, then being traded to a drug dealer for amphetamines. In your case, failure is predestined in the small drop of chromosomal refuse that is your family lineage.

> son

This isn't fooling anyone. The lack of maturity on your part clearly indicates you still haven't reached puberty yet. Run along and go play in traffic. Don't come back until you've won a Darwin Award. Hopefully before you manage to reproduce (Most likely asexually, as you're clearly too weak to overpower and rape even a quadriplegic female).

This is pointless. From now on, I'll just reply with a good old NO U, and refer your unibrowed, glazed eyes to this post.

"Their political ideals are based on the ideas that government intervention is a bad thing by default, social services are evil, and that humans and corporations can be trusted to regulate themselves."

I cannot fathom living under the delusion, no not just delusion - but the massive ignorance of all historical precedent to believe that, somehow, giving any group power would result in anything but that group becoming the governance of that power.

The OP also ends with an excellent point; Libertarian's have essentially already ruled this (and many other) countries. Lessaiz'Faire (Spelling?) economics fell apart all by itself. The Libertarians champion concept of "Social Darwinism" has already sorted out their kind.

The fact is that the creation of an incompetent, affluent class created the Great Depression and only the Wartime, Government Hand-holding economy brought it back.

We never looked back, because it (Libertarianism as you fad-politik people call it) was an inferior idea.

I dunno if >>47 can but i can. Stricter gun laws do not affect criminals because, by definition of the word "criminals", they don't follow the laws. Law abiding citizens, on the other hand, follow the law, by definition. This disparity means that stricter gun laws put law abiding citizens at a disadvantage as it disarms the law abiding populace and makes it easy to commit crimes. example: In New York city, even with a concealed weapons permit, your are SEVERELY restricted to the kind of gun you can carry. Furthermore, the gun carried must be in a snapped holster which must be concealed and the ammo must be in a sepparate carrying CONTAINER that must also be closed and kept away from the holster. If you have a gun in your glove box of your car, the ammo must be in the trunk. Failure to comply is a felony.

Example: John Q Public is driving along in his honda civic by Central Park. He has his unloaded baretta in his glove box and the bullets in the trunk. 2 Latin Kings run toward his car while he is at a red light to try to rob him. They have a baseball bat and a machete. He see's them in his rearview mirror from 50 yards away but, sadly, cannot get to his trunk in time to load his gun (nor would he be LEGALY able to justify doing so in NYC due to the gun laws) and can't drive away. He dials 911 and waits to be robbed while the police take 20 minute to arrive (if he is lucky) and accepts that his property is forfeit and that anything these to thugs do to him in the interim will likely go unpunished. The thugs know this too.

93 Name: Citizen : 2008-06-18 18:02 ID:42YVxsLM

>>92 continued...

Say he wasn't in NYC. Lets say he was in Downtown Miami in front of bayfront park(where the law says that If it is reasonable to believe that you are in danger of death OR SERIOUS BODILY HARM, you may use lethal force and are not required to flee). This time, John has his baretta loaded and in his glove box. by the time the 2 thugs make it to his car, he has them at gun point and orders them to the ground, calls the cops, and wait for the WORTHLESS Miami PD to arrive 2 hours later.

The moral of the story here is that the criminals will have weapons. ALWAYS. In Britiain, when guns were banned, gun violence actually rose. Most people don't realize this because the numbers were still low but thats only because Britain has historically had low violent crime rates. The same can be said of Japan. In 2006, there were 72 gun related deaths. This sounds low until you consider that even the average cop over there doesn carry much in the way of guns. That means that even with a zero tolerance policy on guns, criminals still have them. and that means that you are now at a total disadvantage because they have a huge advantage over you. Contrast this to switzerland, where everyone is required to keep a government issued rifle and is part of the civilian militia.
Switzerland has a higher number of guns per capita than USA and Has less gun violence than any nation with a bann on civilian firearms. Why? because the use of weapons in crime isto establish an advantage over the victim. If you are unarmed, all i need is a machete to rob you. if you have a baseball bat, i now need a gun to have an advantage. If everyone has a gun, the advantage is now gone and while most criminals feel they can evade the police, they know that the "victim" who is armed can and will shoot him on the spot. You can frame someone else for your crimes. You can execute someone and know everything about their life difinitively except wether or not they commited a crime. That, you have to decide based on evidence. The armed victim, by contrast, knows nothing about the attacker except that he is, in fact, the one commint the crime and will act accordingly. This is why most violent criminals admit that they would take pause before continuing their activities if everyone had guns.

And before you try to say "let the cops do their job" remember that there are relatively few cops per person. They can't be everywhere. This means that all they can really promise you is that they will TRY and catch whoever did something to you. Criminals know this too. Thats why Crime is lower in places where people have more guns. It is no coincidence that the Crime rate per capita is higher in NYC and Los Angeles than it is in Miami and Houston, despite the fact that the cops in NYC and LA are stricter and actually enforce the laws, where as the law is very largely unenforced in miami (no j walking tickets, cops show up 2 hours late to 911 calls in response to things like armed home invasions and aggrivated battery down the street from the police department routinely, ect.) Its because more guns equals less crime.

tl;dr Moar guns = Mutually assured destruction on an indiviual person's scale
