Illegal Immigration solution (27)

I have come up with a solution to the problem of illegal immigrants from Mexico into the United States of America. The obvious problem is that it is caused by domestic issues of Mexico, yet it has a major effect on the US. As it is not a domestic issue of the US, the US cannot directly intervene. So we need to make the domestic issues of Mexico domestic issues of the United States. Annex Mexico.

I suspect that the initial costs towards influencing the political elite of Mexico to agree would cost ~$10b. USD in bribes. The cost of political absorption, infrastructure improvements, and converting the existing economy of Mexico to comply with US law could cost ~$500b. USD (cf. Unification of Germany). The recent escapade in Iraq shows that the US economy can endure such a cost without any major immediate problems.

Benefits:
-End of contentious and time-wasting debate on illegal immigration
-US population increased by 1/3, many new consumers for American businesses, new recruits for the struggling US military, etc.
-Guatemala border relatively trivial to defend
-Large oil reserves become US possessions

Drawbacks:
-Initially a major money-sink.
-A lot of legacy stuff has to be translated into Spanish

Yeah, good luck selling that to the Mexican people.
I can see the logistics though. Mexico's a pretty rich country.

No instead let it continue as it is beneficial to the economy.

You are too clever, you win this round.

Why not make like the old days and restore the Mexican imperial family to the throne. You know... it still exists to this day and are treated like full-fledged royalty everywhere they go.

Replace Mexico with Korea and US with Japan, and what you would get would be a nightmare.

Well It wouldn't really be sacrificing democracy at all, considering how little of it there is in Mexico.

Bring the boys back home from the wars and military bases and set up a garrisons on the US - Mexico border. It's an invasion, it's about time we treat it as such.

This would have no effect whatsoever on US-Mexico diplomatic relations.

Urrr, like what? Are you trying to say the US is better?

No no no, I'd never imply any nation's superiority.
I was speaking of what I viewed as long-term one party rule and questionable presidential election results.
I know next to nothing about the politics of Mexico, so my opinion is worthless in this matter.

My solution is to force businesses to pay illegals the same as legals. That would illiminate the biggest reason that we can't do anything about illegals. Right now illegals work under minimum wage, so if you need some work done, it costs less to hire an illegal. Since businesses aren't in the habit of overpaying for things they need (including labor), the cut-rate price makes illegals attractive for unskilled labor (things like dishwashers and housekeepers). Remove that incentive, and illegals become less attractive as employees.

Once business no longer have a reason to support an open border, it would probably close at least somewhat.

Afterward we can annex Canada.

Great thinking. Next, why don't we ditch the numerical calendar and start naming years after the product of whoever pays us the most? A great source of funds for a strapped government.

I want to see immigrants out of America just to see how much they fail on their own.

Don't know about all of Mexico, but there might be something to having a few northern states join, like Chihuahua and Coahulia. I don't think this will happen any time soon though.

Well the idea is good but if it happemed we'd get an influx of violent Mexican criminals and gangs allowed to freely cross the border and kill Americans I just say we give the martial law order on the border build some heavy duty walls and have our boys blast anyone who gets to close of course with a warning though.I'm sick of watching the news and finding out some alien killed and innocent citizen or an alien without a licence stole a car and crashed it causing multiple citizen deaths. And that whole give them I.Ds and driver licences is so unpatriotic if you see an illegal arrest him i'm tired of my and your tax dollers being spent to pay hospital and other bills for people who don't pay taxes and send all the money they earn in my country to support their families back home.Don't you agree?I'm all for annexing it but it's not the right time we need to regroup and get a better leader who is like a nam vet and atheist so that he can sympathize with the troops before he sends them and so he won't hold the interests of one religion over another and so he can eleminate that one under god b.s.
