Ever since the faggoty Harambeposter has been bumping up old threads nobody wants to post in, it destroys semi-active boards and turns them into wastelands. This entire fucking website has been destroyed by this annoying poster.

At this point, I don't see why all boards shouldn't just be deleted and have only 2 or 3 boards up.

3 Name: Anonymous Advisor : 2017-03-27 07:29 ID:tNkOF0/O

is there a previous copy that can be reverted to before the spammer struck?

>>2

I agree. Archive them and leave only 2 or 3 boards open.

Copying my post from DQN

There's one feature that might actually improve textboards. Index the front page dynamically based on the last non-saged post, allowing the page order to be restored after bump spam is deleted. There's not a slow forum around that wouldn't be improved by this. Backend mod tools and the previously mentioned bump spam negation are all that is needed. Ylilauta is one of the few sites I know that actually does this properly.

Do this.

Ignoring the obvious hyperbole, I appreciate the issues being raised. Most of the spam comes through tor which could not be banned conventionally, but I have implemented a tor ban now with a blacklist that updates every hour.

As for writing new software, that is a big undertaking. I don't think anybody would be satisfied if the old threads were not migrated either.

Let me see how the tor blacklist goes. If we suffer more bump spamming and it continues to be too difficult to clean up by hand, I will make some command line scripts to do the job. Kareha is not the most easy-to-modify piece of software, so have some patience.

I have a few suggestions:

We should copy 2channel "soko" and "shuffle" commands.
Soko throws the thread down to the bottom.
Shuffle throws the thread in a random position.

Its genial!

Thanks for the feedback guys. According to >>18 the feature is more unpopular than it is popular, so I am inclined to hold back for now. At any rate, I think that >>23 closely matches my opinion on the matter.

My conclusions so far:

  1. if any of the two features are implemented, it would only be on DQN
  2. both soko and shuffle, if implemented, would only force to position 10 and randomly place between position 1 and 10, respectively. That is, it would not apply to the entire thread list.
  3. soko appears to be more open to abuse, by being repeatedly used to silence a particular thread. I don't particularly relish the necessity to police this, either.

I'm not sure if there's anything to silence on DQN

Since "Nuke DQN" is the most popular choice in that poll, maybe this would be a better idea: If someone posts on DQN with "nuke" in the link field, nuke the board.

nuke all boards under News, no one uses them

there's a lot of threads that should be on /tech/ but were made in /code/ cause no-one uses /tech/

what was the point of having both /net/ and /iaa/ again

del /hobbies/

del /dqn/ just to see waht happens

7 Name: bps!!+u1+mB+S (Admin) : 2015-09-20 22:29 ID:HFJZMXob

This has been a controversial subject for a long time.

  1. I'm sympathetic to the idea of archiving all the existing threads which haven't been active for 6-12 months or so.
  2. Merging boards is a big move. I have been considering other ways to solve these problems of inactivity. Should they fail, then maybe we can try merging boards.

Stay tuned...

12 months is pretty short. 3 or 4 years would be more reasonable.

10 Name: Anonymous Advisor : 2015-09-23 16:01 ID:1sfG/nWz

I like the idea of merging /code/ with /tech/. And why does /tech/ say "Tech Support" in the frame anyway?

11 Name: Anonymous Advisor : 2015-09-29 02:31 ID:Heaven

>>10
That's how it (inevitably) wound up being used.

12 Name: Anonymous Advisor : 2015-09-29 03:44 ID:QjANyrky

My fear is that removing/merging the boards would just make the site 'feel' smaller and even more uncomfortable in the long run. Without posters, even one board will seem slow. Even DQN.

Sadly, the only solution is advertising somewhere OTHER than 4chan. The only thing they have to offer any more are replies about how this place, surprise, isn't 4chan.

I don't mind the museum atmosphere, not posting sometimes can be a virtue.

13 Name: Anonymous Advisor : 2015-11-18 23:14 ID:+l6w5Gxb

>>12
The only problem with inactivity is that it tends to scare off new users

14 Name: Anonymous Advisor : 2015-11-21 07:29 ID:Heaven

IIchan is dead, that thing that replaced it is pretty dead too.
I doubt drastic changes to the site will encourage consistent long term activity, that will only come with a resurgence in the interest in 2ch style bbs in English.
No way to fight the decline in interest really other than becoming tastemakers.

why would we want the sort of users who are scared off by the idea of thinking before posting?

[Policy] Title [DQN] (6)

1 Name: Anonymous Advisor : 2008-01-23 14:11 ID:Emgri4CQ

You probably know about the big album project that emerged from the elitist superstructure - Title. It's nearing completion (21 out of the 29 songs have been done, and the remaining is easy and actively worked on). Once it's done, we'll distribute the album all over the internets.

Since we consider that DQN-kun wrote every DQN song, we intend to credit the album to something like "DQN-kun and the Elitist Superstructure of DQN" - and to provide a link to 4-ch.net in the album tracklist.
It would look something like this: http://tanasinn.info/wiki/Really_Long_Song_Project#Cover_artwork

So I thought I'd ask this before we actually do it: is it OK for us to clearly mention 4-ch.net in the project?

PROS: Influx of new people, including good posters
CONS: Influx of new people, including idiots

[Request] Debate Board (11)

1 Name: Anonymous Advisor : 2007-06-30 02:46 ID:b/6G1exs

I was wondering about having a debate board added to 4-ch. It would spark some interest and discussion in the site as long as there are some strict guidelines put into place. I'm sure that the people of 4-ch would like to give their opinion on the world's pressing topics! The only major problems I can see are people being off topic and trolls, but as long as there is a guideline for people not to flame, it should work out OK. If anything, it would bring in more people. I don't even know if there is an anonymous board with a place for debate yet (I'm sure there is somewhere), but this is just a suggestion.

2 Name: Squeeks : 2007-07-01 15:14 ID:DvLEaFhd

Well, in the mean time, if you can keep the conversation free of excessive stupidity and trolls, use /politics for politic debates, and /science for scientific/reglious/moral debates.

Debate boards always turn into religious flame-fests. If you want to be reduced to arguing like a 12 year old over the existence of fictional characters and a storybook and why you believe in them or not, go yell it out on the street.
