It's a minor thing, but the Anonymous name in /code/ should start with #! instead of !#

Done.

>>48
I kind of did that on purpose, but if you want I'll change it.

Ah. Nevermind then, guess I missed the joke.

51 Name: Anonymous 2006-01-07 01:55 ID:UQTeLO35

The name in /code/ is missing a leading slash. It should be "#!/usr/bin/anon". Alternatively, how about "/sbin/nologin" or "(null)"?

52 Name: Sakurina 2006-01-25 23:47 ID:Heaven

Trapped in /dev/null
(for /code/)

53 Name: Anonymous 2006-01-27 21:41 ID:Heaven

The missing leading slash was added, so I doubt it's going to be changed.

It was mentioned in the IRC meeting that the default names should more obviously reflect that the poster is anonymous.

In particular, "THRILLHO" is kind of esoteric, being a reference to a Simpsons episode, apparently. I think "NAME OVER", as suggested in >>1 might be a better idea. Almost anyone who wants to talk about games will get the joke.

Also, I think that "/sbin/nologin" might work a little better for the Programming board (than the current "#!/usr/bin/anon").

Alternatively, all the default names could just be "Anonymous." Someone suggested that, and it certainly does get the point across. But I don't think it would be popular. It loses so much of the flavor.

>>57
Don't you dare take away THRILLHO

Besides, all Anonymous names are listed in the wiki somewhere. It could be linked to from some FAQ.

59 Name: Anonymous 2006-01-30 22:33 ID:Heaven

Imagine if you had to read the FAQ to figure out how to post a message. The advantage of this kind of board is its accessibility, so the anonymous name should be obvious.

60 Name: Anonymous 2006-01-31 07:28 ID:Heaven

Its was pretty obvious to me that THRILLHO was the default name, even before I was reminded of the reference (even if you haven't seen that episode, its pretty clear that its meant to be a 1337 g4|\/|3|2 speak type name.)

61 Name: Anonymous 2006-01-31 14:41 ID:Heaven

It was pretty nonobvious to a friend of mine, who wondered why everyone was posting as "THRILLHO" and entered his name as a result. It could easily be a pseudonym someone would use at a gamefaqs board or something; it doesn't suggest anonymity, is the problem.

62 Name: Anonymous 2006-01-31 17:56 ID:Heaven

Looking at just about any thread that is linked offsite and people need to to told that the default name is the default. The best of both worlds is to do THRILLHO (Anonymous) or somesuch?

63 Name: Anonymous 2006-02-03 01:59 ID:Heaven

>>62
No, that's just a sign you need to lurk and learn/visit the faq.

64 Name: Anonymous 2006-02-03 20:26 ID:Heaven

>>63 Bullshit. gb2/whatever register-only shithole you learned that from. 4-ch is good because people who have lives (i.e., no time to waste reading the stupid FAQ) can easily show up and add their opinion.

65 Name: Anonymous 2006-02-04 04:39 ID:Kj886hOb

Which doesn't seem to work in practice, but we do get occasional interesting people dropping by.

66 Name: KJI!XDpPLAUYlQ 2006-02-04 06:38 ID:Dvtj6sDO

I've never read the fact... most of the stuff I learned from lurking at world2ch

67 Name: KJI!XDpPLAUYlQ 2006-02-04 06:38 ID:Heaven

"FAQ," rather.

68 Name: Anonymous 2006-02-04 16:31 ID:Heaven

I second the THRILLHO (Anonymous) suggestion, perhaps THRILLHO(default)?

>>64 is a retarded zealot, but he's got a point that FAQs as a rule don't get read much, as reasonable an an idea as they might be.

>Anime = "Faceless Wotaku @ /anime/"
>Manga = "Faceless Wotaku @ /manga"

I'm not white. I'd have to leave those boards in protest.

70 Name: Anonymous 2006-02-05 01:48 ID:nhvGWRiX

>>69
Wotaku doesn't mean "white otaku" (e.g. like wigger is a white nigger or wasian is a white asian)

Well, I'm sure there are people that use it as such, however, that was not the intention. It probably isn't a good name anyways because people might (incorrectly) take it that way.

I'd like to request that the default name for /news. be changed to "Sling!XD/uSlingU"

Bring back Captain Obvious!

75 Name: holdincourt : 2006-05-19 08:57 ID:uL/X3wsp

what about a "sports" board? Even 4-chan made one!

76 Name: world4ch VIPPER : 2006-05-25 00:16 ID:Heaven

>>75
4chan is an imageboard, 4-ch is a discussion board (for the most part, as I understand it) and in case you haven't noticed, world4ch's boards suck (which is pretty par for anything 4chan, but at least they are/were a bit better then the imageboards), even News for VIP is getting damn stale/empty, which is why I've migrated here, at least I have some real quality to read up on in this place without the constant retardation that litters the other site's posts. Perhaps some will disagree with me about the relative retard factor between here and there, however I firmly stand my position that the stuff I've been reading here is about 100 times more entertaining than world4chud, not to mention the fact that these discussion boards are at least moderated.

My point is this though, just because 4chan does it, doesn't mean this board has to. But also, even though I haven't been lurking here long, it seems to me that there wouldn't be much of a content draw for a sports board when a lot of the other boards don't seem to get a great deal of attention/submission on a regular basis as it is.

Alternatively, make it "I AM A PROUD MEMBER OF THE ELITIST SUPERSTRUCTURE" or something like that.

81 Name: Anonymous Advisor : 2006-07-19 03:31 ID:aEVZlqQT

( ゚ ヮ゚) Let's make the new anonymous name for /dqn/ ( ゚ ヮ゚)!

82 Name: Anonymous Advisor : 2007-01-18 04:46 ID:5pxQUTMl

For Personal Issues, "Anonymous Recluse"

83 Name: Anonymous Advisor : 2007-01-21 20:36 ID:Heaven

ONE OF SIX OF THE ELITIST SUPERSTRUCTURE

84 Name: Anonymous Advisor : 2007-01-24 23:58 ID:Heaven

I am not >>83, but I support the idea

Proud to be one of the six!

85 Name: Anonymous Advisor : 2007-02-03 07:52 ID:xW4cdSWy

requesting the default anonymous name on all boards be changed to "fart man"

86 Name: Anonymous Advisor : 2007-02-05 17:12 ID:rXhIANPY

Now I can't decide between >>74, >>81, or >>85

>>85
If this makes his posts stand out less, I'm for it.

88 Name: Anonymous Advisor : 2007-02-16 18:20 ID:Heaven

I have a good one
"THE ELITIST SUPERSTRUCTURE IS THE BEST SUPERSTRUCTURE IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORD AND SUPER AND STUFF"
this is the name.

89 Name: Anonymous Advisor : 2007-03-26 04:50 ID:Hkku8EPS

I actually hate the custom names. Is it possible to make an option to just use Anonymous?

90 Name: Squeeks : 2007-03-27 10:41 ID:CETNRrUW

Like typing in "Anonymous" into the name field?

91 Name: Anonymous Advisor : 2007-03-27 16:02 ID:sG4GobB3

>>90

No, I mean so everyone who didn't type a name appears as "Anonymous."

92 Name: Anonymous Advisor : 2007-03-28 14:35 ID:OoOT0uf5

Anonymous is not elite enough.
Let's go fot cryptonymous, incognitous, innominateous, or unacknowledgedeous instead. :)

93 Name: Anonymous Advisor : 2007-07-12 03:43 ID:ZqUiZgCZ

>>91
But then you'd be changing the name. And that's bad.
