Clearly DQN should be more VIP Quality (39)

I have a few suggestions:

We should copy 2channel "soko" and "shuffle" commands.
Soko throws the thread down to the bottom.
Shuffle throws the thread in a random position.

Its genial!

That actually sounds pretty hilarious.

Requesting further comments. I kind of like the idea.

Aw yeah, approval form bps.

Just remember that this should only affect /dqn/. Even on 2ch some boards have soko disabled, and even less have shuffle.

Go for it beeps!

Would a thread that's been soko'd get pruned as soon as a new thread is made? It seems easy to abuse.

7 Name: Anonymous Advisor : 2015-11-14 20:38 ID:cC1U1yKv

If I understand correctly, that sounds like it would cause a lot of chaos and trolling.

8 Name: Anonymous Advisor : 2015-11-14 20:38 ID:3yrFxqCN

Will these be like sage?
If so, should "shuffle" have a 4-letter nippon-ish name?

Maximum stupid off the top of my head, how about "hold" that delays your post until after the next post? So if I did it right now, I would actually be >>8 and only exist once someone made >>7.

>>6 I thought it would go to the bottom of the main page.

I didn't make these names, I'm really just suggesting a feature they have on 2ch. "shuffle" is the current name it has on 2ch, by the way.

If you want to make a 4-letter nippon-ish name for it, though.

>>6
Abuse what? This is /dqn/ we're talking about.

Against the idea in general.

11 Name: Anonymous Advisor : 2015-11-15 06:11 ID:qrbZKB5t

Sounds like it would make browsing chaotic.

Honestly, it seems less easy to abuse than simple necrobumping. If someone soko/shuffles a popular thread, it's trivial to just find it and bump it back to the top, whereas if somebody necrobumps an old thread it takes forever to sink back to where it belongs. If it is implemented, I foresee a short period of "abuse", followed by the feature being mostly ignored and maybe used as a sort of pseudo-moderation to hide unambiguously bad threads. I'd say let's implement soko on a provisional basis and see where things go from there.

I approve of soko.

How about "bake" as in mojibake, i.e. that it messes up the thread list?

Yes, I am fixating on the least important aspect of the feature.

So it's the equivalent of a reddit downvote?

I know many people have the gall to call a 2channel feature "reddit", but I didn't expect those people on 4-ch.

As a wise sage once said,
"Please back 4chan"

You're right, it would be stupid to give shuffle a made-up Japanese name. That's why it's perfect for DQN.

Why can't I? Maybe a reddit feature would be good on the board. We should just have upvotes and downvotes also.

20 Name: Anonymous Advisor : 2015-11-17 20:17 ID:IgN+CLAY

I want more information: is this
just to the bottom of the page
Just to the bottom of the thread list
All the way down at the bottom of 'all threads'

I'm in favour of shuffle in any case!

21 Name: Anonymous Advisor : 2015-11-18 19:13 ID:A/t+8LoP

>>20
I forgot. I could swear it was "all the way down at the bottom of 'all threads'".

22 Name: Anonymous Advisor : 2015-11-21 13:43 ID:qGTXn7Tk

>>21
That's a bit extreme compared to sage. Down to the bottom of /index would make more sense, as it's still there to be seen if someone wants to rescue it, but one bump from an older thread or one new thread and it gets nudged out of sight.

Also, the bottom of all threads is a nice place to go to for some history. Randomly soko'd threads in the mix will ruin the feeling of being thrust several years into the past.

>>22
I feel the same way about shuffle, up til now people haven't really been able to mess up the thread order that much, and giving them the ability to randomly place threads at a new position in the full list seems like a huge step towards making threads undiscovered. I feel if these are implemented they should both be limited to the first page and not the whole thread index.

I'm sorry, that was not the answer we were looking for. For review, a question is something that ends in a question mark. For example, this is a question? Please try again another day.

Thanks for the feedback guys. According to >>18 the feature is more unpopular than it is popular, so I am inclined to hold back for now. At any rate, I think that >>23 closely matches my opinion on the matter.

My conclusions so far:

  1. if any of the two features are implemented, it would only be on DQN
  2. both soko and shuffle, if implemented, would only force to position 10 and randomly place between position 1 and 10, respectively. That is, it would not apply to the entire thread list.
  3. soko appears to be more open to abuse, by being repeatedly used to silence a particular thread. I don't particularly relish the necessity to police this, either.

>soko appears to be more open to abuse, by being repeatedly used to silence a particular thread

I'm not sure if there's anything to silence on DQN

32 Name: Anonymous Advisor : 2016-01-02 03:22 ID:Heaven

Since "Nuke DQN" is the most popular choice in that poll, maybe this would be a better idea: If someone posts on DQN with "nuke" in the link field, nuke the board.

I know it's been decided but just in case a doubt befouls your mind, DON'T DO THIS.

soko and shuffle were added by one of the 2ch devs to fuck with boards he didn't like, it wasn't a serious addition, and I'm sure they were used for a short while.

>to fuck with boards he didn't like

Sounds great for DQN then.
