nuke all boards under News, no one uses them

there's a lot of threads that should be on /tech/ but were made in /code/ cause no-one uses /tech/

This has been a controversial subject for a long time.

  1. I'm sympathetic to the idea of archiving all the existing threads which haven't been active for 6-12 months or so.
  2. Merging boards is a big move. I have been considering other ways to solve these problems of inactivity. Should they fail, then maybe we can try merging boards.

12 months is pretty short. 3 or 4 years would be more reasonable.

I like the idea of merging /code/ with /tech/. And why does /tech/ say "Tech Support" in the frame anyway?

That's how it (inevitably) wound up being used.

My fear is that removing/merging the boards would just make the site 'feel' smaller and even more uncomfortable in the long run. Without posters, even one board will seem slow. Even DQN.

Sadly, the only solution is advertising somewhere OTHER than 4chan. The only thing they have to offer any more are replies about how this place, surprise, isn't 4chan.

The only problem with inactivity is that it tends to scare off new users

IIchan is dead, that thing that replaced it is pretty dead too.
I doubt drastic changes to the site will encourage consistent long term activity, that will only come with a resurgence in the interest in 2ch style bbs in English.
No way to fight the decline in interest really other than becoming tastemakers.

why would we want the sort of users who are scared off by the idea of thinking before posting?
