My parents pronounce it jai-roh.  I&#39;ve never had a waiter or waitress point out that it was anything different when I&#39;ve ordered one.  A couple months ago I was talking about a gyro I had to an aquaintance and they had no idea what I was talking about.  After I described it to them they said something like &quot;Oh&#44; you mean a gyro?&quot;&#44; only they pronounced it sort of like &#39;year-oh&#39; or &#39;euro&#39;.
