BD just lost another skirmish.

>Joone says actually said last year he is committed to Blu-ray. Now they announced four HD DVD titles in the United States. In the interview Joone says he was forced to use HD DVD, because no Blu-ray disc manufacturer would make his discs, because Sony was against it and they would loose their license.

Without porn on Blu-ray, could it be what decides the outcome of the rival formats? This is going to draw even more parallels to Betamax vs VHS, where the same porn divisions happened. However, the home video porn industry is very different from when VHS made its debut. It was nonexistent then, and now has to compete with internet downloads, video on demand, and DVDs of pretty good quality and equal convenience.

Oddly enough, there are already japanese porn videos on BD so not all manufacturers may be under that kind of restriction.

Ars Technica, apparently the only online news service to actually check up on news stories before posting them, has this to say:

> Ars contacted the Blu-ray Disc Association for comment on Joone's allegations. "There is not a prohibition against adult content," said Marty Gordon, vicechair of the BDA US Promotions Committee and vice president of the Philips Electronics Hollywood Office. "The BDA welcomes the participation of all companies interested in using and supporting the format, particularly those from the content industry. We look forward to working with any content providers interested in providing their audience with [the] best possible high definition home entertainment experience."
>
> Officially, the BDA is welcoming adult filmmakers with open arms. But they may not be interested.
