I am trying to figure out what the best way to store digital photos. I usually have to re-burn all the dvd/cds every few years for fear of them breaking down. Does anyone know of a better way to store photos that is less maintenance?

cds and dvds last a lot longer than a few years unless you're doing something very wrong, like running over them with your car, rubbing sand on them, subjecting them to extreme heat or cold, etc.
so stop doing stuff like that and you should be fine.

Buy a couple of large external HDDs. Keep one off site and make sure they get mirrored regularly.

use online storing services like picasa from google, flickr, etc., if it is ok for you. you can also mark albums as private that only you or friends can watch them. they make backups and i guess they live for a long time from now on. and if not, you can save them back to your hd...
