Hey guys

I've been watching Hollywood and Hongkong movies all my life and now I want to try French movies. Is there any epic/classic films that you consider representative of what I can expect from French movies?

-La faute à Fidel! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0792966/

-La Haine http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113247/

-Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0211915/

-Tout est parfait http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1043749/

-13 Tzameti http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0475169/

If you look around you will find other gems. But these movies are def in my top category of french movies: Tragedy, comedy, suspense.

ENJOY!

La cité des enfants perdus
Delicatessen (both by Caro & Jeunet, weird atmosphere, great stories)

Leon

Nikita

La cité de la peur (a classic humoristic film, you might not get some of the jokes though)

Le père Noël est une ordure (same, this one is an adaptation from a play)

Dédales (thriller with awesome acting)

La science des rêves (Michel Gondry, 'nuff said)

Wasabi (Jean Reno, Ryōko Hirosue, France, Japan, cool movie).

Then on the more classic you have stuff like La Folie des Grandeurs, Quai des Brumes, Le professionel, Les Tontons Flingueurs...

Not classic, nor epic, but I like the movie "The Man who loved women". Saw the original in French class at school years ago. The american remake sounds significantly inferior ಠ_ಠ
