>>599 I read such diverse opinions about Hank Williams singing. From Wikipedia it seems like he had a great voice, but others are saying he wasn't a skilled vocalist, his music was quite simple, as his lyrics, his greatness was in the emotion he put in it, if true you are definitely right, the really hard part for TH will be tone more than range.

602 Name: anonymous : 2014-06-13 14:15 ID:IvsgE7rl

lol at the fact some fans are already thinking he will get an Oscar nomination/win an Oscar for this. I'm not American so I don't know how important this biopic can be, but wait until you watch the film maybe? :)

603 Name: nonny : 2014-06-13 16:58 ID:ai14apvm

>>602 most Americans aren't really into biopics unless they're a really well-known individual. That's why most Hollywood blockbusters are action flicks with a lot of special effects. Most "real" films that do well are based on historical events--12 Years a Slave, Zero Dark Thirty, Argo, etc. The Academy looks down on "popcorn flicks," often franchises (like any Marvel movie), and they will never win awards (one exception that comes to mind is The Dark Knight). Academy Awards are very political, and most Academy members who vote are stuffy, older white males. A good performance in a respected movie (biopics may be acceptable in this category) may translate to a nomination, but the rest is completely political. Want to know why Lupita won Best Supporting this year? Because Jennifer Lawrence won one last year, and she's only in her early 20s. No way would they give her Oscars back-to-back.

This fact could help and hurt Tom. Tom has never been nominated. Best Actor is the toughest award to win since there are so many meaty roles for men. I think they would give the Oscar to someone who had already been previously nominated, because it would be "their time finally." For Tom, a nomination by the Academy at this stage would be good enough for his career and seen by them as an honorable gesture.

However, a nomination depends largely on the films itself. Oscar movies are almost exclusively released late in the year (November/December), just in time for Award Season. They are often low-budget with a limited release. As soon as there is a release date for I Saw the Light, then we'll be able to tell if it's Spring-easy viewing, Summer-blockbuster, or Late Fall-Oscar bait category. If it's not planned to be released late in the year (and they set a date then change it if the studio thinks the film is not as Oscar baity as originally thought, i.e. The Great Gatsby), then an Oscar for the film or an actor/actress is simply just not going to happen.

Plus, I'm still very skeptical of his singing. Critics will rip him apart, especially since he is a Brit trying to play an American "legend" (I'd never heard of him before this but to each there own, he's probably very well-known in some circles). We are generally not so forgiving when foreigners try to play our legends in movies.

604 Name: anonymous : 2014-06-13 18:13 ID:IvsgE7rl

>>603 It's so strange that one has to campaign for an award, it's like a competition at who's the best lapdog. Maybe we should wish him not to be considered for an Oscar so he can go on picking films as he likes.
In the end this film can be a great thing or the first flop in his resume, I read the director has only one former experience and it bombed.

No Tom at the catwalk.

https://twitter . com/simonpegg/status/478308055843889152

Luke Evans was there, and he was one of the names that had been removed from the edited list of celebrity guests, along with Tom Hiddleston. My guess is that there was some sort of High Rise pre-production thing today that Evans either finished in time or was able to get out of at the last minute, but Hiddleston got stuck. Just a guess. I could be wrong, but I doubt that Tom is in hiding because of some stupid rumors on a couple of websites (as some of the crazies on tumblr seem to believe).

609 Name: anonymous : 2014-06-16 10:49 ID:UTUI76oi

I don't think he missed this event because his fans are talking about Tahiti-pic, nor I think he missed it because he feared questions since there was no red carpet and the event was very controlled and somewhat private. Even if some journalist had asked him about it, Luke was tweeted the photo with a request to confirm if it was true or not the moment it surfaced on the internet (TH was obviously aware from the moment he agreed to it), in 2 weeks I'm sure they could have come up with a suitable response to give.

On the other hand, just because of work....He managed to find time for Top Gear and Jag, I find hard to believe he couldn't take a moment. Besides, if the reason was that simple why not tweeting "good luck" or something like it to SLJ etc. Yes, I know he might have done that by email, what I mean is that he was publicly listed, so a tweet would have looked nicer.

Someone from the clique circle at LSA wrote that he wasn't there because he dumped JA, which I think it means if he showed alone at an event so soon after a photo of them on holiday together it would seem bizarre, and not only to those who think they are a couple. During TDW press tour many journalists asked him about tumblr, it's not like what is posted there is only ever read by his fans.

Don't know, I stick to my theory JA was never more than a downgrade version of Sian. But hey, next chance is Wimbledon.

610 Name: anonymous : 2014-06-16 12:18 ID:O8tbL8A6

There were others on the GQ list who in my opinion, have higher public profiles in the UK than Tom and none of them were at the event either. Chris Evans was listed but wasn't there, Graham Norton and Tinie Tempah were also advertised as attendees but they didn't show up and neither of them tweeted anything about the event before or after. I know they aren't huge international stars but they have household name recognition over here unlike Tom who is mostly tumblr and twitter famous. My guess is that he was penciled in as a maybe and something else came up just like the other guests who didn't show but because Tom has a tonne of over invested tumblr fangirls who make up a large part of his fanbase, they all freak out.
People are making a mountain out of a molehill and of course that idiot who runs the tumblr website will no doubt take all the credit for his no show.

611 Name: anonymous : 2014-06-16 12:47 ID:UTUI76oi

>>610 really? I thought TH was the only no show. Then shame on GQ, at least wait until you are sure before feeding a list of names to the public.

Chris Evans was there though

>>Hank Williams' grandson has reportedly criticised movie bosses for casting British actor Tom Hiddleston as the music legend in an upcoming biopic. The late star's grandson, Hank Williams III, disapproves of the decision to cast a Brit in the role, and insists an American actor would have been a better choice to play the country performer, according to TMZ.com. Williams reportedly told the website his first choice for the coveted part would be Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey. Hiddleston plays Williams in I Saw The Light, which will chronicle the singer's meteoric rise to fame and his untimely death at the age of 29.

Tom Hiddleston has been working on the nasal twang that was the distinctive trademark of country music legend Hank Williams, whom the star will portray in what he called ‘the opportunity of a lifetime’.
Yesterday, he spoke exclusively to me about the hillbilly with the ‘crooked smile and a wary eye’ he’ll play in I Saw The Light.
The movie will begin shooting in October in Louisiana, although Hiddleston has already started learning how to sing Williams’s doleful ballads with the help of Country & Western star Rodney Crowell. Tom will have to replicate those bluesy vocals and play the guitar.
Hiddleston told me I Saw The Light will chart the singer’s life from his turbulent first marriage to Audrey Mae Sheppard in 1944, through his early radio career to his auspicious debut, in 1949, at the home of country music, the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.
'The film is about the man behind the myth, the power of his music, the sheer voltage of his talent and charisma, and his formidable demons,’ Hiddleston continued.
‘He worked hard, played hard, lived hard — there were women, there was whiskey — but when he sang about being in the doghouse in Move It On Over, or about his heartbreak in I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry, it came from an honest place.’
Marc Abraham’s screenplay ‘pulls no punches’, the actor added, and explores Williams’s ‘shattering, self-abusive relationship with alcohol and later prescription drugs’.
The singer, who suffered debilitating back pain from a congenital disorder of the spine, died of a heart attack on New Year’s Day in 1953.
Abraham, who will also direct, saw Hiddleston in Coriolanus and knew he had his man, even though the RADA-trained British thespian may seem an unlikely fit for the farm boy from Mount Olive, Alabama.
But Abraham said Tom has the rare ability to ‘transform himself’.
Hiddleston adds: ‘Hank’s life has a tragic arc, but in simple truth, he was a genius: a star that burned twice as bright and lived half as long. It’s a huge role for me and a huge responsibility. I’m going to give it everything I’ve got.’
He means it too.
Tom told me: ‘I’ve already started singing and playing every day’.
Rodney Crowell, the Grammy-award winning country music legend, is helping.
‘He came down to visit me over the Easter weekend in Toronto where I was filming Guillermo Del Toro’s Crimson Pea” and we jammed for a day or so. It was so exciting. We had some coffee and did some talking and then we just started playing.
'It was spine-tingling just to spend a day playing some of Hank's greatest hits like Hey Good Lookin’ and Long Gone Lonesome Blues with such a gifted musician. He's already expanded my vocal range and given me a few pointers about adapting my own tone to sound like Hank. Rodney has furnished me with his beautiful J45 Gibson to practice with. And he'll be on hand throughout the shoot,’ Tom added.
He explained that Williams played rhythm guitar in 1-4-5 chord progressions that are heavily influenced by the blues greats: Mississippi John Hurt and R. L. Burnside and by country legends like Roy Acuff.
‘But his poetry, his lyrics, ache with raw vulnerability and emotion. And he sang them with all his heart.
They didn’t call him ‘The Hillbilly Shakespeare’ for nothing. How Hank sang and how Hank played – that’s the work I have to do’.

I imagine, talking about how well he is preparing and how much he loves the character was a way to respond to Hank Williams grandson critics. And to explain the film to those who don't know about HW and don't care about country music (almost the totality of the world haha). At least for his job he does good PR.

By the way, I found that quote of Scarlett in last year "nothing to write home about" GQ interview, where he also mentions he was obsessed with the story of French yachtsman Bernard Moitessier, which I didn't remember, but TH tells how Moitessier eventually retired to Tahiti! LMAO, this woman is an off the wall fruit loop, she needs professional help. Also this beanup (aka Carrie Anne Bowyer) is a stalker, plain and simple, no two ways about it. I offered proof but she thought I was Tom trying to discredit this poor fangirl!
And I call bullshit on her sources because less than two weeks ago she had no one, now she has a network, all of whom are close friends and colleagues, yet none of the "dish" is new, its the same stuff she was peddling the first week all of this blew up.
Anyone who believes anything on that site needs to jump on the crazy train with her. She's a sad little troll who feeds off the attention her blog gets, some of it was amusing at first but it's just pathetic now.

640 Name: Couch Potato : 2014-06-22 19:05 ID:UtKSAC3W

Quite detailed though isn't it? And some of it is new. I'd be interested to know if he's ever had a cat called Chicken. If he's screwing around as much as inferred then some of it will come out eventually, esp if he becomes tabloid fodder.

>>639 She thought your message was from TH? lol!

642 Name: yep : 2014-06-22 19:26 ID:tm3CLmwy

I can agree this blog is a bunch of lies, but I'm curious about last post, because it was my same thought when I saw olivier red carpet pictures "Why no pictures with Mark or Hadley?"

643 Name: anonymous : 2014-06-22 19:32 ID:6w3J00Yy

>>640 He is already tabloids fodder, paps know where he lives and his fav café and spotted him there. Between them and his own fans he would have been seen if he brought girls home or elsewhere in London. Especially from a side of the Brit press that wouldn't like nothing better than bring down an Eton boy.

"the dish" looks specific until you take the single parts aside, it says he has a cat, present time, he doesn't have a cat, he answered a question last year about whether he prefers cats or dogs, he said dogs, if he had a cat he would have mentioned it.
The hospital thing is also false it comes from a post on a tumblr that also claimed the day after he called the hospital from the theatre. Too bad he got hurt on his last day so no theatre.
He is a master manipulator but has low self esteem....have you ever met a master manipulator with low self esteem? Plus he said in an interview last year that contrary to Loki he is "a hopeless liar and an awful manipulator" and that he has never been able to lie in his life.

We could go on all night, it's easy to give pseudo facts, but without real evidence it's worthless.
I have seen a dozen pics of his house from a real estate agent site, I could give you plenty of details, details that go beyond the kitchen and the living room, and if I were as derailed as those women make up a very detailed story. It wouldn't be true but it would be very detailed. Building a believable tale isn't that difficult.

644 Name: anonymous : 2014-06-22 19:39 ID:6w3J00Yy

>>642 I could flip that though and say "Mark Gatiss and Hadley are ungrateful as they can be, after TH paid a day at the spa for them to enjoy after the end of Coriolanus, they didn't even go looking for him for a pic".

645 Name: yep : 2014-06-22 19:43 ID:tm3CLmwy

I have a serious question (no sarcastic) do you still believe in what he says in interviews? Because I've stopped believe him at least one year ago (for PR reasons)

646 Name: anonymous : 2014-06-22 20:12 ID:6w3J00Yy

>>645 video or audio interviews yes, watching how he moves and listening to the tone of voice it's a good way to verify sincerity. Of written interviews I'm always more cautious, but in general not only with TH, because it's the journalist impression.

647 Name: yep : 2014-06-22 20:33 ID:tm3CLmwy

>>646 ok, thanks

648 Name: anonymous : 2014-06-22 20:43 ID:NcyisiBt

>>641 Yes, it was in one of her replies a couple of weeks ago that she had received detailed information on beanup which was most likely to have been planted by Tom to discredit her and it's been brought up several times since then. All I did was provide what other people were asking for which was proof that she was a stalker and she never posted any of it. All the info I found (just screen-caps) was very easily obtained from beanup's and the friend's tumblr and twitter accounts, both of which were public. Anyone could have found that stuff if they wanted to but a lot of these idiots don't want to hear the truth. They just want what fits into their headcannon and the idea of a fangirl being manipulated by Tom is more interesting to them than a married fangirl with kids, develops an unhealthy interest in TH so stalks the pub and cafe for three months in the hope of being his girlfriend. But bikewoman thought only Tom or an associate could have provided that information, not someone who was bored on their lunch break at work (i.e. me).

649 Name: qaz : 2014-06-23 05:33 ID:cyNRgJpY

>>639 TH, this IS you, isn't it?!
LOL, just joking :)

>>645's question made me actually contemplate if I believe him. About his work and general stuff - yeah, I kinda do. Sure, he's uncontrollably enthusiastic about all of his projects and every time we suddenly find out how it's shakespearean and how he's the biggest fan. Makes him a conformist and a "yes" man (which he admitted himself) but doesn't mean he's insincere. You know how the saying goes - "If you can't do what you like then like what you do", and I think TH is a natural epitome of that, he genuinely makes himself like all of his projects. Also, why would he lie about the general things, e.g. being a dog person, not a cat person? Doesn't make sense, unless he has actual mental problems and is a compulsive liar (I am not alluding that he is, lol).
As for the personal stuff... IDK. After this whole "single-not single" debacle, maybe there's PR and image building in that. It would look much better if he just said he didn't want to comment. Still, we don't know what is really happening, so... It's now a lie to tell you're single if you just have a FWB, not a serious GF/BF.
And as for the "perfect" image - of course I think his public image is at least a bit different from his private one, but I don't see that as a lie, TBH. We all wear masks of sorts and are slightly different at work, home, with friends, lovers, etc. Don't think it's white or black, Disney prince or depraved monster. He's probably just somewhere in the middle, like most of us.

Me too, right now CP and HR have more appeal.
Too bad the biopic about the Greek marathon runner was just a rumour, while I can see the appeal of Hank William for TH, the other had a better story.

Absolutely by chance I found this

When ELLE's editorial projects director Annabel Brog interviewed Hiddles for our March 2014 issue, she drove him home afterwards (we know, we know).
'I had a country medley playing in the car - Kenny Rogers, Johnny cash, Dolly Parton,' she explains. 'He said he wasn't a fan then.
'So I like to think ELLE had a hand in this latest career move.'

CP is set for release in Oct. but they'll surely present it at TIFF. I can see HR being presented at Cannes or Venice. No idea for ISL.

I have such a bad feeling for this biopic, the family is against his casting, the director/producer/screenwriter is meh, one of the other producer is also meh. It's not starting with the best premises. I really hope for him it won't become his first flop, it's his first film as leading actor, isn't it?

While I couldn't care less if it's true they are all one person, or it's instead 2 or a 100, if there is a positive thing in all of this mess is that now they are all in a hurry to prove they are not behind all this s**t.

The Nuffield Theatre, Southampton has announced its 50th anniversary season, including the appointment of a team of 'associate actors': Tom Hiddleston

Hiddleston said of his role: "The work speaks for itself. Nuffield feels revitalised with fresh, new creative ambition. It's going from strength to strength and I am proud to support it every step of the way."

I think it means being a member of that company and that he might take part in future projects. If it were just to help promote their work, why the affiliation?

I seriously doubt that Tom is missing the Wimbledon final because of that picture with JA from over a month ago. High Rise is due to start filming this week, so I agree that he's probably already in Ireland. Or at least getting ready to go.

The most surreal thing just happened to me today.

Went on a walk along the seaside with my friend who has come up to visit.

During the walk a jogger ran past us and paused a couple of paces away saying “I like your t-shirt”. My friend replies with a thanks, then the jogger says “no, I meant to other one” and points to me. I glance down at my tee, which is my Loki Charms one and I glance back up and say thank you.

Then I looked at him, and I think to myself ‘he’s quite attractive, he looks a bit familiar too…’ and then I recognised the accent and the voice. And then I realise I have been staring at Tom Hiddleston.

And I panic and I point at him and the only words that come out are “Oh. My God.”

And he replies smoothly with “yes ma’am”. Salutes and then jogs off.

I seriously can’t believe this just happened. I’m in shock, confusion and a state of amazement.
