I don't go in for the whole 'oh, my ovaries' or 'he's trying to kill us' responses to his photos. But then I see photos like these and think, this bastard's trying to kill us. He is quite beautiful - American quite, not British quite!

>>804 Tom apparently has no clue how old he is - he mentions he's 32 (this was filmed in 2013), but he says he was 14 when Much Ado was in theaters in 1993, and says he was a certain age in another year (I can't recall it off the top of my head) that would have required him being born in 1980 rather than 1981. He has admitted to being terrible at math so I suppose that's probably it, but do you think he could have been born earlier than 1981? Fibbing about one's age isn't exactly unheard of in Hollywood.
>>811 no because the year of his birth is also listed on the Peerage website as 1981. I just think it's a matter of memory even more than bad math. Like when he told that story about surprising his gf in Paris and missing an audition, and everyone thought it was because he got the station wrong.
>>810 who on earth would ever buy a red carpet?
>>812 Ah I forgot about the peerage, thanks. I don't blame him for forgetting dates, he has so much other information stuffed in his brain.

This would be The Colbert Report show.
Or the Colbert Late Show, whichever its name is.
I know that Legendary had to foot all the bill for CP because Universal thought the budget too expensive ofr a R rated film, so they need all the promotion, but I kind of wonder now if they are afraid it might flop.

http://insanely-smart.tumblr.com/post/130822253638/working-with-mrwheatley-was-amazing-we-laughed
Eh.. so here is my High Rise impression - the film is def out there - very challenging source material and very very very dark humour. It now has a distribution date in the UK but it will 110% not appeal to the average family /Marvel devouring public (or probably most of the public, to that effect).
Lots of Tom bonking and actually everyone bonking plus a (for me) extremely disturbing scene with Sienna Miller. Tom, Sienna and especially Elisabeth Moss were amazing - I didn't even recognise Elisabeth in the first scene she was in (her accent was very good). The analogy to A Clockwork Orange (the film) is accurate to some extent, though with the sex and violence turned up to 11. I was actually rather glad when it finally ended.
Others have reported on the Q&A: about 20 minutes with Ben Wheatley and the cast taking the stage. Questions asked were (wisely perhaps) chosen from twitter in advance and were relatively tame: "Where any real dogs damaged?" "Where the cast psychologically affected by what they were filming" (answer no to both). "Why did you choose to film inside Bangor Leisure Centre" (1970s building) and so on. Ben was the person who suggested that Tom do his Northern Irish accent (which he did) and bless .. he certainly seemed sure of himself on stage and was a tiny bit verbose , though his costars also had the chance to talk. Sienna Miller was actually rather funny and seemed less restrained on stage. Elisabeth Moss seemed very shy..
and on a snark-free note: Frenchie and friend were there as fans... they def don't deserve the abuse heaped on them last week (imho).
oh .. also: Luke Evans was in turns hilarious, disturbing and sported an extremely 70s moustache (in the film) - major respect. It was also somewhat strange to see audience members done up tot the nines sitting next to people in jeans and t-shirts :)
High rise party .. no pics

Many critics have given the film high praise! Mark Kermode tweeted that he's firmly in the LOVE camp.
I saw it last night, and as suspected some of the confused critics from TIFF mis-read it because they're astonishly dense about class (honestly, they keep describing Laing as a man who fits in with the upper floor residents and the lower floor residents - this is not true at all, he is kicked out of the penthouse party!) and expected a conventional story structure. The Snowpiercer comparisons are way, way off - it's nothing like Snowpiercer, which has a logical structure and premise. High Rise is not like that at all - it's a darkly funny satire. It's absolutely batshit crazy and doesn't attempt to be accessible or logical.
It's a dream-like experience - time is compressed into montages, we jump around from event to event and floor to floor, and people do things that are simply bizarre as if they're completely normal.
I loved it. Not everyone will, though.
>>869 I doubt the journalist of the Guardian being British is dense about class system. Critics at TIFF come froma variety of countries.
The main critic moved to this film is based on a book and the film fails to represents the book, the book isn't a funny satire, at all. That's why I was asking specifically about that.
I hadn't read the book before (and not sure that I am in the right frame of mind to read it now that I have seen the film), so I just saw the movie as a member of the non-Ballard reading class (though I did love "Crash" in it's own demented way).
The film is really really out of mainstream, so I think that the people to whom it appeals may not necessarily be the ones reviewing it. I thought that Tom and Luke's performances were outstanding (as well as Sienna Miller's) so on that note, I would recommend seeing it. Jeremy Irons was good though with his smock he reminded me of his "Dead Ringers" character.
The only performance that struck a slightly off note, was James Purefoy - he seems to specialise in nasty upper class characters and though he was essentially comic relief, I thought he was hamming it up a tiny bit at certain times (I could almost see him smirking).
I forgot to mention how cool Clint Mansell's score was and the wonderful, wonderful way he appropriated everyone's favourite 70s Swedish pop phenomenon (SOS is still in my head).
For Frenchy - innocuous as any other somewhat rabid fan. But that .. an excited fan. Even if she weren't (and I am NOT suggesting this) I personally don't support the vitriol directed against anyone Tom might be linked with as it is slut shaming of the worst kind.
Finally: I didn't want to mention this last night as the event was still on but the afterparty was held at .. The Royal British Institute of Architecture! I thought that was extremely clever ..
Is it JA with his sister?

>>872 No, that woman's face in one of the photos on Torrilla and it's not Jane. I thought the same thing when I saw the ombré hair.
I thought it was. One on the left I think looks nothing like JA.
>>871 thanks I will watch the film and see for myself, my curiosity as I said is whether or not the film managed to portray the essence of Ballard's book.

(this fandom is so small, if read this blog you recognize so many names, someone even from here)
"At the risk of sounding like a broken record: Tom does look better in person than on photos. He’s very tall, very slender (without being thin), has a really slim face (somehow I’m always struck by this fact), and his smile is just radiant. There were lots of autograph hounds where we were standing, and they all stuck their big glossy pictures in his face…and then there was me with my Coriolanus play text. When he saw that, he looked up at me, beamed like a lit christmas tree and said “Wow!” at which point my brain flatlined and all I could stammer was a thank you. Emma was there, and she and Luke greeted each other with the longest hug. It was so bloody sweet. Diana was also there, as were Olly and Faisal. There was another big hug for Luke when Tom arrived. And I mean a BIG hug. I loved seeing that. Luke looks really gorgeous himself, by the way. Tom was the last to arrive and things went a bit nuts when he got out of the car. There could be no doubt whatsoever who was the star of the evening. He wore his glasses during the Q&A, but you’ve already seen that of course. I filmed the whole thing, by the way, but I think it’s already up on You Tube anyway. LOL Sienna Miller is totally smitten with Tom. She was awfully touchy-feely during the Q&A, hanging onto Tom’s arm all the time. Tom wasn’t really responsive to this, which I found interesting. She was lovely, though. Funny, self-deprecating, obviously really happy to be a part of this. Ben was cheeky as always. There was applause as the end credits rolled. Oh yeah, and I loved the film."

>>889 Is there anyone from here on tumblr? I have wondered from time to time as sometimes we (mostly you!) find stuff before it appears there. Disclosure: I have a tumblr account but I don't post. Only have it because you can't use the app without one.
>>891 no I don't have tumblr, I just check a few twitter accounts, torrilla, CB and when I have time and patience (like last night) tumblr.
Mind, mine wasn't a critic to people posting on multiple places, I just realized that when we talk about fans writing and discussing TH, we are probably referring to the same small group of people.

We have said before how small the active fandom is on here and elsewhere.
>>894 In CB too? I've never noticed, but then I never read usernames or comments much, just look for links :)
It was just one user here and on tumblr, but I truly didn't expect so many crossovers on different socialnetworks or boards, so much smaller than I thought.
I've got a tumblr account but I don't post.

Also, this is cute:

I'm on tumblr but I avoid anything to do with Tom on there now - there's too much mean-spirited drama and wild gossip in the Tom Hiddleston tag and on the fan blogs and it stresses me out. I check Twitter if something interesting seems to be going on, but mostly I just hang around here and Torrilla for my Hiddleston fix. :)
>>896 That is cute, and you can tell she is new to the medium. So I also feel like wishing her good luck, I have a feeling she'll need it.
>>897 Yes tumblr is stressful, my way is finding a blog where fans sends anon posts of sightings, although it implies skimming through plenty useless stuff. Right now it's the teatime blog.
>>897 There are a few nice blogs. From hiddles with love is one and there is also cheers Mr Hiddleston and enchanted by hiddles. These post nice photos, their own gifs/edits and infos without the drama. I have found you don't need to follow more than 2 or 3 sane ones to get what you need as there is a lot of reblogging. I also follow 2 that are irreverent and naughty but affectionate and make me laugh without crossing the line - tomismonochromaticallyfabulous (devoted to his unusually small wardrobe) and flappyhappyhiddles (devoted to his unusually large other attribute).
I miss Torrilla on tumblr. Thank heaven for weibo. And thank heaven for here. Our little boat has sailed close to the rocks of fandom once or twice in recent months but we sail merrily on. I like you guys. It's a nice place to hang out.
