Seriously, he is a bit daft with the old "I support feminism" thing. He spent ages droning on about this at Nuffield I am told. My friend who went and reported back said rather waspishly that it was unforgivably dull because totally uninformative. Is any male celebrity really going to say no, I support oppresssion of women, sex trafficking and FGM? The real question is not whether they express support for feminism, but whether they actually do anything about that other than wear a t shirt.
PS In his Guinea field diary he confessed he had never heard of FGM prior to the trip. For a then 32 year old, Cambridge educated, Guardian reading man, I found this shockingly ignorant.
