He has been depicted many times in cafes and on the street by fans and occasionally paps and I have never seen him smoking. That's what I mean about being careful. Someone smoking is order mentioned by journos as "local colour" so I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't smoke during interviews. Saying you smoked a bit for a role and have tried to give up feels a bit different. I think it's a fib FWIW and that he has smoked on and off throughout his adult life - he has the classic smokers' lines between the eyes and from the nose to the mouth.
