I think that was part of the reason they seemed so awkward at TIFF - it was the first time they were publicly together since Pursegate, and they had obviously decided to put forth a "we are not dating" vibe, regardless of what their relationship actually was. So yes, I agree that he did seem more comfortable with Wrenn, but they don't have "careful where you put your hands, people think we're together" running through their heads.
