Tom gets drunk at the Met Gala (we already know this happened). Taylor hits on him and they dance. She invites him to come back to her place when it's all over. He's thrilled at the prospect of hooking up with the "cool girl" and takes her up on it, even though she's still in a relationship with Calvin Harris. Someone gets photos of them leaving together, or him going into her apartment, or him leaving the next morning in his tux. They send the photos to the Sun. The Sun says hey Tom and Taylor, we've got some interesting photos we'd like to publish... unless you provide us with an alternative. So Tom and Taylor stage the RI beach shoot, pretend to be all lovey-dovey, and give the Sun a story to run in place of a cheating scandal that will still guarantee just as many sales and website hits. They cover up their illicit dalliance and will "part ways as friends" over the summer via a tabloid announcement from a "source" aka their PR. The end.
