>>81 We almost missed this because of my inability to read emails or look at the fine print on tickets. I just assumed it was going to be at the NYT building - it was not. So, we were about 20 blocks away a few minutes before the doors opened. 20 blocks is A LOT of ground to cover in 30ish minutes on a rainy Monday in NYC. We picked cab over subway and just made it. There were single seats scattered around on the floor, even though it was supposed to be a sell out. But because we wanted to sit together we ended up in the balcony area, so no close-up TH for me.

Here are some quotes from the boy:

  • When he spotted TH's suit: Is he Scottish? (We saw a lot of the same pattern this past week/end because it was Tartan Week!! That suit made TH look like a leftover from Scottish Tartan Week. Shit! It was awful. He's a grown man, he should know better. Prayer circle that the stylist is only for this big promo tour and goes away after.)
  • About 30 minutes in: You can tell they got along. (The bromance was palpable.)
  • After TH's umpteenth quote: Is he going to answer every question with a quote?
  • At the end: That was not worth $80. (More like $110 with the impromptu cab fare/tip)

Overall, it was nice. I think HL stole the show, he was a perfect mix of funny and esoteric/common. TH's needs to take himself less seriously. At one point they were asked to talk about something they were currently obsessed with. TH spoke for 5 minutes about a book, essentially giving a book review = boring. HL said 'beach volleyball' = HL slaying it.

I will say that even from a distance, TH is beautiful. We were off to HL's side, so every time TH looked at HL, his face would turn toward us - gorgeous. He does, however, fidget like a 7-year-old school boy. It was probably that suit. Blame the suit.

The audience had to write down questions on cards (no embarrassing requests for hugs!). We missed the cards since we got there late but if I'd known I could have asked a question under the blanket of anonymity, I would have asked if he had enjoyed working with noted Shakespearean actress Jane Arthy and if he wanted to work with her again. I bet it would have slipped past the unknowing card censors; I bet TH's face at that moment would have given me an orgasm.

A few people approached the stage after it ended, but TH and HL headed for the wings very quickly - with no eye contact or backward glances! Some people near us said that there would be an autograph opportunity if you waited for them to come out afterwards (I don't think there's a side/back exit based on the block/building configuration), but we didn't wait. I'm too old for that shit. Instead, we walked over to the Russian Tea Room for overpriced blinis and stroganoff...and vodka!

I can say I've seen TH in the flesh (bird's eye view), but the evening was pretty standard TH wise. HL was a hoot.
