I suspect that drinking less might also have to do with (as he's said) he "can't just go out for a drink" anymore now that he's much better known.

But I agree that he must have needed all the booze he could get to survive Taymerica. There was also a story about him sneaking away with the other guys at some point for some beers. (And he did have a death grip on that huge wine glass!)
