I just rewatched the first 8 episodes of this show and it's a lot better than I remembered

I didn't have cable as a child so I never watched it
I'd be keen to watch it someday

Fun show. I always liked shows that were sort of dirtier-looking, with asymmetrical characters and angular shapes rather than the odd-looking bubble-shaped characters that are popular these days.

I think this was an extension of the gross out humor era we had in the 90s-2000s. Things were dirtier and marilyn manson was a thing. punk, goth and then... scene? Things got kinda weird. this "gross" style of cartoon was especially popular in latin america where you can still find it if you look.

It's one of those shows where removing the sound effects, music and facial expressions would make it dogshit (like ed edd n eddy). Although like >>4 mentioned it falls in line with the gross out era of cartoons, but unlike most of the shit they aired on networks like FOX Kids that blatantly plagiarized Ren & Stimpy, Zim had the classic weird emo Jack Skellington hot topic scene vibes. From the looks of the trailer of the movie so far, it's super polished and the sky looks more like a sunset than a nightmarish dark red sky

It's funny that Revenge of the Spork blew the Rocko special out of the water even though the animation was worse and off model. I'll gladly take random humor over beating the audience over the head with meta dialogue

>implying animation driven by the medium's strengths is bad
