Anyways, >>1, please listen to me. That it's really related to this thread.
I went to Yoshinoya a while ago; you know, Yoshinoya?
Well anyways there was an insane number of people there, and I couldn't get in.
Then, I looked at the banner hanging from the ceiling, and it had "150 yen off" written on it.
Oh, the stupidity. Those idiots.
You, don't come to Yoshinoya just because it's 150 yen off, fool.
It's only 150 yen, 1-5-0 YEN for crying out loud.
There're even entire families here. Family of 4, all out for some Yoshinoya, huh? How fucking nice.
"Alright, daddy's gonna order the extra-large." God I can't bear to watch.
You people, I'll give you 150 yen if you get out of those seats.
Yosinoya should be a bloody place.
That tense atmosphere, where two guys on opposite sides of the U-shaped table can start a fight at any time,
the stab-or-be-stabbed mentality, that's what's great about this place.
Women and children should screw off and stay home.
Anyways, I was about to start eating, and then the bastard beside me goes "extra-large, with extra sauce."
Who in the world orders extra sauce nowadays, you moron?
I want to ask him, "do you REALLY want to eat it with extra sauce?"
I want to interrogate him. I want to interrogate him for roughly an hour.
Are you sure you don't just want to try saying "extra sauce"?
Coming from a Yoshinoya veteran such as myself, the latest trend among us vets is this, extra green onion.
That's right, extra green onion. This is the vet's way of eating.
Extra green onion means more green onion than sauce. But on the other hand the price is a tad higher. This is the key.
And then, it's delicious. This is unbeatable.
However, if you order this then there is danger that you'll be marked by the employees from next time on; it's a double-edged sword.
I can't recommend it to amateurs.
What this all really means, though, is that you, >>1, should just stick with today's special.

18 Name: >>1 : 1993-09-5111 02:54

Hahahahahaha God damn you >>17

Go for it! We believe in you!

That's a huge challenge... none of us have the same style, the same tools, and we don't even know how many we are (probably at least 4 if I remember correctly the amount of recordings of All Alone for Christmas).

A collab would probably be either:

  • 1 or 2 guys working on a long background track fairly consistent throughout, and singers adding their lyrics (can't have the backing really reflect the lyrics if we go this way). And because of the huge scale of the task, there's no way bad singers can get their lyrics fixed by the arranger(s) if they can't do it themselves. I doubt we can get dedicated and organized enough to do it.
  • A succession of unrelated songs that we would just consider to be 1 really long song. We would probably split it so each song is 1 verse + the chorus. Maybe we could make it work by having someone make an official a capella chorus, and everyone else must reinterpret it or remix it in a way that is strongly reminiscent of the original. But this way, there's no helping the fact that every 2 minutes, the genre, the quality, and even the volume of the songs would drastically change.

Also, we would need some kind of actual organization. At the very least we should all agree on a few rules and on which part everyone would do. Maybe a wiki page on scratchpad.wikia.com or something would be better than a thread that could quickly become way too long and intimidating for people who would otherwise consider joining the project.

I'd definitely participate anyway, whether we go for complete DQN style, actual music, or a succession of very different parts.
Are there more people who would participate? (if so tell us what sort of music you would do)
I make mostly electronic music with horrible vocoded vocals (can't sing), spoken parts, and speech synth.

I do hard electronic stuff, but none of my music sounds similar enough to pinpoint a style.

I was definitely thinking the second option. The fact that every part would be completely different is what makes it great.

We could probably get some of the guys from DQN ELECTRONICS VOL.9 to help, so that's 12 more people at max.

As for organization, scratchpad would probably be best, unless someone who has a wiki is willing to host something like this.

There's another etherchan like wiki in the works, but we don't have any programmers or admins. Anyone feel like doing a ton of work for no real reward? ( 'A` )

I don't think that's a problem, it will just make it even more DQN.

So only 3 now... ? Even if we managed to do the 18 verses all by ourselves it would probably be too repetitive to make for something fun to listen to...

Well, the song was finished long ago so maybe a few people are waiting to see if we're really serious about that before replying.

Plug a set of headphones in the mic jack. It actually works, but you'll need to turn the input volume up and filter the noise out with a sample editor.

Or you could just go to radio shack and buy a $10 microphone. ;)

If you want good quality and have a few dollars to shell out, get the Shure SM58; otherwise, any $10 mic will do just fine with a bit of editing. For true DQN quality, though, headphones are definitely the way to go.

Hey guys, what should we do about the encores? There are 4 or them:

  • 1st verse encore after bridge 2
  • 3rd verse encore after 1st verse encore
  • 2nd verse encore after bridge 3
  • 1st verse partial encore * 2 after 2nd verse vencore

We obviously can't have the exact same song file twice.

I think maybe we could just go the easy way and have someone say in a pretty DQN voice something like "As to improve your enjoyment of this song, we recommend you play the 1st verse a second time".

I've finally figured out how to write Vocaloid lyrics reasonably quickly:

  • lay out as many notes as there are syllabes for one or two sentences
  • right-click the first note, choose the next to last option
  • Write your sentence as engrish syllabes, each one separated by spaces. For example, 'i ro ru do mi tu i zo do mi ci ru' for "He lured me to his domicile".

There is a dictionary (ALT+L then C) but I've not figured out how the hell it really works yet.

Hey guys, there's a new wiki at http://tanasinn.info/, feel fee to use it as a project page, we would be honhored to host it!

I had EPIC PLANS but my speech synthesizer was found wanting. So instead of carrying those out (and is w) I forgot about this project for a month and then made this in 1 hour from two midi files lying around on my hard drive. Enjoy.

Just in case someone else is trying to do stuff with Vocaloid, here are 2 additional things I've found out:

  • When editing a note, you can edit the pronounciation by pressing ALT + Down Arrow then writing pronounciation symbols
  • The pronounciation table in the included dictionary is only for English Vocaloids! The pronounciation with Miku is available in the help file: press F1 then look for the page "VOCALOID2”‰¹‹L†ˆê——•\i“ú–{Œêj" in the last category ("•t˜^").

Actual effort went into not making it sound listenable, as to not scare away listeners right from the first verse.

Since there is a full encore, and then a 'partial encore x2' of this verse, please go ahead and fuck it up twice. This is a good way to participate if you can't make music but know how to speed up a song and smear noise all over it.

Also, go grab a mic and a guitar or something and go record a verse right fucking now guys.
I don't care if you're reading this at 4 AM and don't have a guitar, do it anyway.
And don't forget that 3 remixes are still up for grabs.

You don't have to read this whole thread to get started, all the info you need is at http://tanasinn.info/wiki/Really_Long_Song_Project , including web-based speech synths.
And if you're not comfortable editing the wiki, just say you reserve a verse in this thread and we'll take care of the wiki for you. Then you can upload the MP3 to rapidshare, no need for something permanent.

Do 77 and ( ß ƒŽß) (names used on the wiki) still intend to do the 4th and 13th verse? I think they have been reserved for months.

Anyway, for those who don't care to check the wiki yet care to know how it's going on, 16 of 29 songs have been recorded. Of the 13 remaining, two are remixes (of the first verse, and of the chorus which hasn't been done yet) and the 11 others are normal verses.

Also, I don't think anyone cares, but letting you know about

I still plan on doing mine, although I have been having no end of technical problems the last month. Latest news is my computer is completely dead and I'm borrowing a friend's laptop until I can get a new one, but the entire 4th verse minus the last couple lines is still waiting patiently to be tied up and rendered to mp3.

There's a CompUSA down the street that's desperately trying to sell all of its stuff. I might pick up a cheap desktop from there and swap the hard drives out so that I can get this done. I actually have parts of other verses done as well, so once everything is operational again I may be able to contribute a few verses.

>>66, which is the official name? "N.E.E.T.", "NEET", or "Not in Employment, Education or Training"?
Also, we'll have to move the "Squeeksand Mix" in the comments, to keep the tracklist as intended.

¼“ñ“ñ“ñi OƒÖOj“ñ“ñ“ñ½, you set 'Blues' as the genre. Was it intended or did you just kept the default? Unless others want to use something funny as the genre maybe we'll just use 'DQN' as the genre for everything.

It's kinda hard to keep track of what's happening when nothing is happening, but I don't think any of them have forgotten, it's just that the activity is irregular. It's not like we have some sort of deadline anyway, but an update would be appreciated. The remaining are:

  • 10th - >>66 - since 18 January 2008
  • 13th - ( ß ƒŽß) - since 9 October 2007 (Updated status on 22 January 2008)
  • 15th - ( ß ƒŽß) - since 22 January 2008

  • 17th - >>66 - 29 January 2008

There have been posts on the wiki, on /music/, and on iiichan/music/ to make sure they notice we are waiting for a status update, so let's wait. I think we should wait at least a week for a reply, but there's no need to wait a whole month. How about 2 weeks to give a status update? (not 2 weeks to finish them, just to tell us they're still around)

Oh, boy! Heh! I'm very interested in doing verse 13. If the guy who was originally signed up to do verse 13 doesn't show up after a day or so (or however long you were going to wait for him), send me an email, and I'll get working immediately.

> Do you still intend to do the 13th verse? Please give us an update!
> Yes, but my singer quit. ;_;

And since the 13th is also reserved since 9 October 2007, that's why I think we shouldn't wait any longer and let >>262 and >>264 have them tomorrow.

Nobody bitched about the booklet, so I added a few more pages and will continue. I'll try to finish it soon, but of course it can only be 100% finished once the songs are done. I'll upload the PSD so you guys can release if the musicians still need months to do it and I'm not around (I may have a shitty and infrequent internet access in August for example).

(Warning, all in one page, may stall old computers)

I try to strike a good balance between respecting the original lyrics, and making the formatting nice. I think it's OK to fix AA (example on page 24, made it line up right), but maybe someone won't like what I did with page 26.

(Oh yeah, and I know that I need to fix page 30, don't worry about small mistakes, I didn't really check it yet)

316 Name: ( ˃ ヮ˂) : 1993-09-5398 04:23

This project is so DQN in every way, of course we won't finish it in any sort of normal time

>>314
I like it a lot, but did you make pages 9 and 15 the same on purpose?

318 Name: ( ˃ ヮ˂) : 1993-09-5398 17:27

>>317
No, it's just a mistake I didn't correct before uploading.

319 Name: ( ˃ ヮ˂) : 1993-09-5398 17:34

Since I'm at it, I'll repeat something I said in another thread:
since it seems we're gonna wait ages for the last 3, if someone feels like it, I think the 18th verse deserves better than what I did (the idea was just not good enough, and the execution horrible). Someone wants to give it a try?

Bumping for news of 66-kun. Once you read this, could you post some sort of short WIP to prove you're not just someone trolling us by impersonating a previous contributor?
I loved your previous verses and I'm sure others did, but please half-ass the rest, right now you're just coming every other month telling us "Almost finished, I'm still on it" ;_;

Verse

This will be your epic journey.
No, two remain.
And then we will celebrate until October.
It ain't over 'til the fat loli sings
This song is going uphill fast.

Chorus

Are the last five ever going to be recorded?
So guys seriously how about telling us what is happening
Wow, this is awful! I really can't believe it!
You will fail. So don't even try.

Verse 2

i feel uphill
do you feel uphill
cinnamon rolls, oh yeah cinnamon rolls
This song is going uphill fast.
Well, disregard that, they have forgotten.

Bridge

(L^ิƒÖOิ) Give up.

If 66-kun won't post soon I will do some emergency 1-hour-generic-technoshit so we can finally be done with this thing.

That won't prevent him from releasing the verses later as standalone bonus tracks.

337 Name: Captain Obvious : 1993-09-5446 08:25

Well, I think we waited long enough.
The ⚠ EMERGENCY GENERIC TECHNO COMMITTEE ⚠ presents the 17th verse: http://dqn.dqn.lol.googlepages.com/17th_Verse.mp3

I'll take care of the 10th soon and package the whole damn thing so we can call it done.

If 66-kun reappears before that and is ready to post something (or can show a WIP) then his versions will take priority.

Man, this project sure did wonders to my ability to make generic music real fast.

It's done. Release thread: http://4-ch.net/dqn/kareha.pl/1217462701/
