Boris Johnson pushing for a return to imperial weights and measures made me think of when the nazis promoted blackletter as the true German style, against Roman typefaces which were becoming standard. A few years later they decided the blackletter style was Jewish because it looked like Hebrew so adopted Roman typography

A mix of desertification and "climate change" although it looks like a result of said desertification has made it too hot for herding, the herders who lived directly below the Sahara desert in the Sahel or semi-arid areas have moved their animals into countries like Ghana and Nigeria where they have conflict over land use (particularly feeding the cows crops), religion, and tribal identity. Ghana and some other countries instituted a shoot on sight policy for the herdsmen whereas Nigeria did not and even is attempting to legislate areas where they can graze freely despite the security issue the herdsmen caused, mostly because their president belongs to the same ethnic group usually implicated.

>>59 u have cause and effect backwards friend, the desertification of the sahel is happening because of climate change due to industrial pollution & farmers clearing the land for crops, which pushes the pastoralists out of their traditional grazing lands where they've been living and grazing their animals for centuries before "desertification" started. it's just weird as fuck to parse "pastoralism is destroying the local environment" from that, is all i'm saying.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nouakchott#Demographics
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niger#Demographics
Consider that the population from this region is exploding, and the former is just in an urban area. Perhaps I was too simplistic but said desertification may be a result of following the old ways of pastoralism with a much larger population and thus having many more cows. I am not denying that industrial pollution from more developed places may have added to this, but there is a lot of evidence that herding is the main culprit in the Sahel, considering most are unable to industrially farm there.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desertification#Causes
There is definitely a case to be made for the exploitation and non-restoration of soil, but in this part of Africa, the dirt is destroyed because of the cows and goats removing vegetation rather than industrial farming standards and subsidies. The challenges faced there are different than the kind most of us normally face.

I will say this though, you may have a point regarding nutrition from pre-industrial sources, because these people are extremely fertile.

denpa purist:
denpa has to be japanese, and have at least some typically agreed-upon features of denpa (mismatch between lyrics & melody[eg dark lyrics but upbeat instrumentals], strange time signature, repetitive chorus, gets stuck in your head) and they have to be unintentional (eg the artist wasn't specifically trying to create a "denpa song).

Personally I'd rather jump from a high place, but some poor guy will have to clean up the mess later, and maybe some kids will see. I'm pretty sure they will be excited to see something like that. Falling from an airplane without a parachute is an ideal way for me, but expensive and nobody will let me. Eh, I'm not going to do shit, I'm a coward.

With all the databases (and torrent trackers) for anime, manga, and even novels, I don't think most commercially released 2D media will be forgotten like that. Same with most significant doujin works, but I get the concern for more obscure doujin stuff, but aside from music (which doesn't need translation), I don't think westerners should be concerned with untranslated aside from the "Everything Rumi Knows" type sites where just noting it existed and a single line of what it was is enough because explaining the cultural context of something like Cookie is pointless because even to someone who understands japanese you would basically need an essay to explain all the cultural references PLUS both net and spoken slang. It's a large labour of love for something even the people who made it consider throwaway jokes.
I also think the japanese are aware of archival movements and are doing it themselves, considering that on 2ch you have people swapping both old and new Famicom homebrew. I'm sure there are similar for many subcultures there.
There's a lot of western nerd artifacts that are already lost and forgotten as well.

i'm honestly amazed that journalism and academia are still functioning against all odds in the modern world. in academia there's a strong profit incentive to overload researchers with teaching and for researchers to publish spurious results to get ahead during the rare times when they're not teaching, and a massive replication crisis in some fields, but the overall project still grinds forward on the basis of maybe 5% of what gets published (mostly in hard science and math). similar in journalism except that journalism isn't even a non-profit enterprise generally. newspapers are businesses; the administration isn't concerned with the truth. there's no incentive to bite the hand that feeds and publish shit like the panama papers. and yet journos still do it on occasion. i can't really say the project 'goes forwards' because journalism is sisyphean in a way that science ain't, but still it's amazing that good work ever gets done

like ok, each stroke represents the relative position of your tongue, teeth, and lips, and whether you breathe in or hold your breath while pronouncing it. and each block is one syllable, from the time you open your mouth to speak to the time you close it to break off. so basically each block/character(?) of hangul is a visual diagram of how to pronounce itself. an adult could learn to read and write this in literally 10 minutes. i'm actually pretty sure you could teach an alien to speak a human language this way. but im sorry, korean sounds like a deaf person with a sore throat trying to speak chinese.

Anyone else here sympathetic to Shii, but wishes world2ch.org had won?

Theirs was a truly ineffective government that took a people on its knees from a depression and turned it into a military, technological and cultural powerhouse within the space of a few years.

It was a social experiment in the way that many similar textboards are. SAoVQ was an experiment in VIPPERs and QUALITY. 6ch was an experiment in abusing timeless XSS. world2ch.org was the grandest experiment of them all: a rejection of the gentle side of man and a wholehearted pursuit of our more teutonic side: The glorification of the strong, the self-sufficient, and the dominant. It was to be the beginning of a bolder and more uncompromising online culture that would bring discipline where before there was only coddling; that would harden the soft, and that would not be afraid to say that equality means equal opportunities, not that all men regardless of strength or posting skill are inherently equal to one another. It was a call out to all men to transcend their passive, mediocre existances and aspire to become the heroic and unstoppable species that anonymous posters always had the potential to become.

World2ch.org was the combined hopes, dreams and ambitions of all who dared to dominate; but in the end, these dreams were quashed by weak, subversive men who would rather hold their superiors back rather than attempt to catch up.

I was very disturbed by some of it to the point of it making me rethink some of my vices. I also think it's the first western damnation of homophobia, albeit it was extreme even for then.

I also think it's interesting western depictions of Christianity haven't really gone past classic Italian depictions.

The upper end of normal urine output for an adult human is 2 liters per day. For simplicity, let's make an extremely conservative estimate that Hitler pissed 2 liters every day of his life, including as a newborn baby. Hitler thus generated approximately 40900 liters of piss as an upper bound.

Let's further assume that this piss has equally distributed itself throughout Earth's surface water. There are roughly 1,260,000,000,000,000,000,000 (1.26e21) liters of water on the planet.

A healthy human drinks a minimum of 2.7 liters of water per day. (Actually, only women do, men need to drink more.)

I believe this means your chance of drinking a water molecule on any given day that formerly exited Hitler's bladder is roughly 40900 / 1.26e21 * 2.7 * 0.01 = 8.7642857e-19. Pretty low.

I'm not good at math though. Please check my work.

I don't think it was "debunked", I believe the quantity is correct, but your water intake is usually complemented by the water content in your food. stuff like soups and watery foods count towards your water intake, thus why you don't need to drink the 8 glasses of water or whatever.

Yeah, there's a small boom of people recording themselves while working on tiktok, so far I've seen streams of a lady cooking, a pair of thai street cooks making something resembing pancakes, a guy doing his daily commute, a guy controlling a crane, a housewife with a big butt doing her daily routine in her yoga pants, a girl making chocolate-covered banana pops to sell, and a lady selling food on the street. Zero office job streams though, but I think it was very interesting regardless.

Seriously, what's up with katakana? Are katakana really necessary?
Kanji, I can understand, because they have meanings, they look cool, they're compact.
Hiragana, well... they're a super-simplified, purely phonetic version of kanji script. OK, that's useful.
But katakana?
You see, the only purpose of katakana is to save face. Without them, any gaijin looking over your shoulder could immediately see that you spell "beer" as "biiru" and "golf" as "gorufu" and start laughing at you. But with katakana, now you can just pretend that a better spelling is impossible! "It's not me, it's the writing system!"

All I can say in defense of katakana is, you rarely see too much hiragana at once, they kind of serve as word separators as well, japanese language doesn't use spaces for word separation. But with katakana it is oblivious that that thing over there is a word. I know I'm probably responding to a joking post seriously, I don't care.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as katana, is in fact, uchigatana, or as I've recently taken to calling it, dai-uchigatana, is not a sword system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning nihonto system made useful by the katana corelibs, wakizashi utilities and vital tanto components comprising a full kenjutsu as defined by {.

I remember joining one room in some collaborative painting thing, was chaotic as hell, everyone was drawing over the entire screen at once. I waited until everyone calmed down, and people started drawing each on their own part of screen. I've drawn a lighthouse in the corner of the canvas, selected line tool, selected yellow color, maximum thickness, and started working as a lighthouse light over the entire canvas. This triggered another chaos shortly. Then one guy painted the entire screen with black with biggest brush, and I did a yellow cross from upper right to lower left and from upper left to lower right. Everyone even paused for a few seconds. One guy even typed "YELLOW CARD". It turned into chaos again quite shortly.

There was a time when I was drawing a guy's face starting from his tongue. Everyone was wondering "what the hell is he drawinng... wait it's a face?"

It's an op just on the basis that there have been a million more stories around China and the CCP being thrown around seemingly with the intent of seeing which one sticks in the public consciousness, it just so happened that it was the social credit meme, and I figure it sticked because the west already has a deep affinity for arbitrarily grading and gatekeeping social mobility.

It's "CPC". People who spread or regurgitate Taiwanese propaganda always use "CCP". The irony of social credit system: https://foreignpolicy.com/2021/09/15/china-social-credit-system-authoritarian/ is that Western credit score system is worse.

The thing is that lends credence to your op theory is that journalists (albeit clickbait journalists that may not even be using their real name) have resorted to making up shit about China when there's already enough public shit to make people dislike them, the situation in Xinjiang was working for a while, but I think it became too Islam-centric for the general western public to care although among them it has become a 2nd Palestine of sorts; two years ago or so there was a viral story about socially-acceptable baby eating over there, which is obviously fake.

Another scandalous operation I'm surprised hasn't gotten steam is the way Chinese debt collectors are treating Zambians, but you can pretty much do anything in Africa and have it fly under the radar it seems, (Pygmy genocides, Central African Republic Bush War, slavery in Mauritania, etc).

If I were to put on my conspiracy hat, things like the social credit meme caught steam again because too much ire was being directed towards the average Chinese people and not towards The Party. This is of course ignoring that there is a lot of anti-US/western memes/stories (interestingly, a lot of it coming from the US, the fifth column there is strong nowadays).

In reality, it had a resurgence because the John Xina tiktok was popular and featured the credit check, people just found it funny in the context of an interactive check, similar to the "vibe check" meme. People aping what is popular is nothing new or particularly glowy. Journalists make up shit about everything they won't get sued for. Fear and ragemongering is good business these days.

Thing is, if you believe in this sort of thing, especially the Illuminati, then all powerful governments are farcical and the whole conflict is just for show.

same reason finasteride and dutasteride never really caught on i think. (I know they are quite popular among a certain niche, but I also know I've seen people with easily preventable male-pattern baldness, who are unhappy with that baldness, and I've mentioned it to them and they basically just shrugged).

i'm not quite sure what that reason is, to be honest. like, i don't know what provokes this response. it's an interesting question. the obvious explanation is manhood anxiety-- people don't wanna take a pill that's gonna take some of their sex hormones away. but i don't think that quite explains it because as i said it's not that people react with hostility or fascination (e.g. how they react to the transgenders or the gays), it's more like they just don't take the possibility of taking such meds seriously. and it's not a matter of getting ahold of them either; the last guy i suggested it to (because he was complaining about baldness) was from india where pharms like that are easy to acquire (and let's just say this guy had experience in that realm as well). all i can really say it that for better or for worse transhumanism isn't really taken seriously as an option by what would appear to be the majority of people.

To be fair, for a crowd that has male pattern baldness, hiding the early signs of prostate cancer is a big deal.
Also, hair transplants are quicker and generally more accessible than meds.

693 Name: ((●)トェェェイ(●)) : 1993-09-10291 23:08

And hair transplants are more dramatic, from what I've seen, those meds only cover bald spots whilst hair transplants can give you back your hairline

well fin and dut don't reverse hair loss, but they're cheap af and prevent it entirely if you start it when hair loss starts, nothing quicker than that

don't know that about the prostate cancer but that's pretty much an old people disease anyways i don't think people showing signs of balding in their 30s really need to worry about it

the prevention here being analogous to preventing sexual offending. like, ive met some neckbearded neets who are totally willing to eat the bugs and some such people have confided in me serious fantasies of raping people, i suggest they take spironolactone (because i'm in usa, or i'd probably suggest cyproterone), they just shrug

like, if you're seriously worried you're gonna rape someone, what have you got to lose? it's not gonna make you grow tits (like seriously, ask any tranny online if it'll make you grow tits. it won't.) and if you're really worried about it removing all your sex drive you can just do a binary search until you find the right dose so that you still get sexy feelings but not overwhelming ones.

i mean with the NEETs i kind of understand it because these are hopeless people in general but with the indian guy who never had any problem sourcing illicit pharmaceuticals otherwise it kinda baffled me

not the person who brought it up, but jordan peterson's opinions are one of those things that are important because they're popular and influential, regardless of their correctness.

i took a look at the book when i first started hearing about it. i wasn't surprised to find that it's full of major logical flaws, but what was more interesting was that he's not even a very good writer; i expected to at least find his stories compelling, something to justify the popularity. instead it was more or less like reading malcolm gladwell or steven pinker. i think that his popularity stems from the same sort of phenomenon that makes gladwell and pinker popular, where people read the books to feel smart and because he's got smart people credentials and agrees with their opinions on social topics.

in that sense it is very much like the bible (i.e. boring garbage that's influential because people care about it for reasons unrelated to its merits), a comparison that i'm sure jordy himself would find flattering

i do share his love of benzos, however

speaking of perfectly capturing the jewish character my favorite part of the bible is when god is talking to abraham before he destroys sodom & gomorrah. and abraham is like, if there were 50 good people in sodom, would you spare the city? what if it we counted and it were actually only 45, surely you wouldn't destroy the city because of 5 people? like at this point he's been the first jew for about ten minutes and he's already HAGGLING WITH GOD.

Excuse me, the Old Testament is a copy of the Jewish holy book describing Jewish nomads leaving Egypt, taking the word of God from a volcano and all that...
Even Jesus was a Jew, he was allowed into the Second Temple, don't forget the so-called "Cleansing of the Temple". Contrast this with Paul who was chased away by an angry mob on another occasion. Non-Jews weren't allowed in.
Roman executions are another tell-tale sign: non-Romans got crucified, but Paul was beheaded (and canonically depicted with a sword).

"Most" is an important addition. Most but not all. I was loved by all girls back in school. They would cling to me and I would act all shy and make them go, "He's so puuuure!" I could have said, "Hey, cutie, want to make some hot steamy love tonight with this stud?" (while pointing to myself with both thumbs) to any girl of my choice and she would have melted in my arms that instant - but instead I thought to myself, "Girls have cooties"- and I kept silent. I stuck to this principle ever since.

i used to always forget the difference between and E when i tried to read like that but realizing that the leftmost two strokes are a hand and remembering the bottom radical made it so i will literally never forget, think about the ancient world, E is the that you bring food to your with, is the that you 'ply your craft(H)'[wipe your butt] with

saw theory that the week is the yang cycle and the month is the yin cycle, i.e. masculine and feminine. free testosterone in males rises a bit for each day gone without ejaculation, peaks after about 7 days, then returns to baseline. this makes sense to me, both the month and the year are intuitive enough to grasp over time simply by looking at the sky but the week always seemed arbitrary, not so if it is related to a man's natural cycles just as the month is to a woman's.

YuGiOh abridged took around 10-15 episodes to get good, while Dragon Ball Z abridged was pretty good from the start.

Because of those clowns finding actual abridged animes is almost impossible. The one for One Piece exists and is called One Pace, it's just the anime with most fillers cut.

I doubt there is such a thing as a good card game, they create cards just to eventually ban them from everything. It is the world's first pay to win as well.

>doubt there is such a thing as a good card game, they create cards just to eventually ban them from everything. It is the world's first pay to win as well.

Yeah, a good card game should be relatively fixed and have rules that basically everybody can agree to and remember, like board games such as chess or draughts. Variations are fine but when the core game itself is infinitely expanding powercreeping becomes a big problem and only old timers that never gave up and continue to buy the newest cards can still play the game. There's over 20,000 of them now, how could anybody starting in 2021 learn the game?

959 Name: ((●)トェェェイ(●)) : 1993-09-10312 09:08

Though the pay-to-win "CCG" model is popular, "LCGs" (Living Card Games) are a more consumer friendly option. You and your opponent agree on a card pool (e.g. sets A, B and C) and don't need to worry about rotation, banlists, rarity, random packs, etc. Every box of cards has the exact same distribution within.
Netrunner (a popular but discontinued LCG) is even community-ran now & has a small starter set designed for learning the game, as well as a site for playing online.
Only problem is that for some reason people prefer getting ripped off & buying random packs so it isn't as popular as CCGs like YGO.

What this all really means, though, is that you, >>949, should just stick with today's special.

960 Name: ((●)トェェェイ(●)) : 1993-09-10312 09:42

The YGO anime is incredibly frustrating. It genuinely has a good story, but it keeps getting interrupted with boring duels. I don't give a shit about the card game. The only duels that are fun to watch are the high stakes ones where people die if they lose, but you have to watch 10 shit duels to get there. But even then you just want the plot to move forward.

Heard the english dub was horrible there. As in it censored a lot. TV anime in general has terrible pacing, which is why I mostly read manga instead. They tend to turn 40 pages of manga into a 20 minute episode, imagine how slow the action is. Fuck adaptations in general, if something was originally a book it usually turns into a pretty shitty movie.

I think the changes were better. Usually, anyway. Some of the stuff didn't need to be changed. So, there is no bump limit in /dqn/? Are other boards like that too?

Boards are only good if you can go in a for example japanese media board, think of an any random japanese thing there, and can be more or less sure it will be there.

You faggots being afraid of creating thread is why forums are ahead.

Few, long threads > many short threads, and if you've somehow missed this fact you're lost.

Many long threads > few long threads. Boards that aren't dead have no issue with getting their threads long. Unfortunately, world is too small for two not dead boards.

I remember captcha "miquotion" from a few years ago. Weird, because it doesn't bear any special meaning to me.
Captcha: miquotion

Another reptile attack video went viral. Time for more hysteria over largely harmless animals

If only complaining would solve all problems in the world!

Why do you think I am here? I'm SOLVING my problems. My problems being most sites being too javascript infested and heavy, and also annoying me with "please register first".
