General talk about soy sauce.

My question:
For people used to western-style cooking, how do you use soy sauce?
Can it be used in cooking in the same way we use olive oil?

Got any tips or revelations to reveal?

Not really. It's just a seasoning, no substitute for oil where oil is otherwise necessary (frying things, for instance.) It's also pretty darn salty, so be careful not to put too much of it in - a few teaspoons to tablespoons is about the right amount depending on what you're cooking.

It's not far removed from Worchestershire sauce, so you can start cooking with it by substituting one for the other, without fear of creating something inedible.

Use it in place of salt.

You need to know this: There are different kinds of soy sauce.
Dark soy sauce (common in China) has a deeper flavour and is great for beefier dishes, light soy sauce (common in Japan) has a lighter flavour, and in general is great for veggie-based dishes. This is only a general guideline, and not a rule. Some meatless dishes taste better with dark soy sauce, and some meaty dishes taste better with light.

Soy sauce is very salty. You usually can completely skip using salt in a dish if you use soy sauce.

If you buy kikkoman, you might wanna buy the green capped one instead of the normal red. The green one contains less salt than what soy sauce normally has, and it's my choice for light soy sauce. You want to have both dark and light soy sauce at home. Don't forget to get other sauces that are great for cooking, like oyster sauce, or fond based sauces - or better yet, make stock and fond yourself. They really are great for tasty meals. Don't use soy sauce too often. If your every meal is starting to contain soy sauce, you should be very concerned about your health.

The equivalent real-life situation would be if your little lady douched with soy sauce.

Use it with fried meat, vegies, rice, noodles.
Some soup bases.

Try to not use it liberally. Otherwise it tends to overpower the rest of the flavours. Like when you eat really dodgy hokkien noodles from your local Asian restaurant. Very salty. Too much salt makes your hair fall out.

I have never heard of different sperm having different personalities, let alone one being sorry, let alone enough to have a count of them.

You can find lower sodium soy sauce in a really good asian market, that has a very bold flavor.

Works great in browning ground beef and whatnot. :)
