I am on a diet, but I can't quit soda, so is drinking diet cola healthy?

Diet coca tastes awful.

It contains high doses of aspartam which might according to certain studies be a vector of cancer.

Also a diet is mostly a matter of will, so if you start by "I can't quit X" attitude, I think you're screwed.

Good luck though.

also~ when ur body craves sugar an u give it artificcal sugar like apsertame splenda ect... it tricks ur body into thinking it's getting sugar when it really isn't, so thus the craving reaminas an u evuntalyy get bloated an kinda chubby from all the carbonation, if I where u i'd have 1 soda a day to help curb that sugar urge, cuz diet is NASTY an very bad for u!

Drinking diet cola is neither healthy nor healthful.

Er, I don't think the carbonation makes you chubby. If so, drinking soda water would make you fat. It's the sugars in soft drinks that make you fat.

Also, soft drinks with aspartame don't have enough in it to give you cancer. The lab rats that got cancer from it were given like, half their body weight, and unless you're eating 75-100lbs of pure aspartame a day, you're probably fine.

That said, nothing's better for you than water. :)

drink real soda, diet gives you an appetite and slows your metabolism. diet soda is counterproductive.

besides, diet is nasty and, for me at least, has negative side effects. as soon as i start drinking it i start to shake...i dont even want to konw what it would do if i drank it a lot.

I don't know, but I have started to lose a bit of weight since I switched to diet soda. I generally get Coke Zero products, either vanilla or cherry.

actually, it's just my pants fit looser, but I still can't fit into size 36 pants. Maybe I should buy a scale.

I suppose it is all relative really. If diet soda is the only thing, and you drink it in moderation, I suppose it is no real problem. If, however, you drink about 50 cans of the stuff per day, the rest of the diet may well be in vain.

Diet soda is pretty nasty, even though my dad says it tastes the same. I have no idea how he can say that, except that he's smoked like his whole life and I heard smoking can kill your taste buds. That being said, my dad has lost a considerable amount of weight since he switched from regular sodas to diets. So its possible you may lose the weight.

Last year my mom's new year resolution was to drink less soda. Just from abstaining from drinking any soda she lost around 25 lbs over the year. She only drinks a single can on the weekends now.

Although whether something is healthy for you or not does not explicitly mean losing weight.

In my opinion you should just ration yourself. If you drink multiple cans per day, slowly back down until its only one can a day or something. After that try to have a soda every other day, etc. Obviously you're not trying to quit sodas, but in the long run, quitting sodas is probably the most healthy thing to do.

I only drink soda now when I go to a restauraunt. I haven't lost any weight but thats thanks to other dietary things (ie I love eating). But now when I have soda I burp like crazy. I guess my body can't handle all the carbonation anymore.
