The game "Skyroads" is fucking great. It has excellent music, too. The only thing that could possibly make it more perfect is if it had a level editor.
ITT, discuss favorite DOS games, including, but not limited to, Skyroads.
Cave Story is a classic. Princess Maker 2 is also fun, in a creepy half-pedo half-incest sort of way.
Cave Story is a DOS game?
There are so many great DOS games: Civ I, F119a, the Zorks, any LucasArt game, Alone in the Dark, Out of this World, Wolf3D, Duke Nukem 3D, Xargon, etc, etc, etc.
I regret that many younger gamers won't ever have a chance to play them.
Monkey Island I & II!
Full Throttle = LucasArt game.
Jill of the Jungle was mediocre in my opinion.
But I can't believe I forgot the Keens. O.o
BTW, was I the only person who found Commander Keen 5 a letdown after 4?
Sam & Max !
And dont forget Stunts
OMG, the old LucasArts games were THE BEST, X-wing was extremely hard, but I loved it still.
Commander Keen still rocks,
Anyone remember Dig-dug or Digger I think is another game? I want those games T__T
I remember the original Red Baron by Sierra for the 286, that's what got me hooked on gaming.
Anyone successfully gotten Stunts to run under Dosbox, or any similar emulated environment? I enjoyed that game a lot, but now I can't play it. :(
The King's Quest series ftw
>>14 Oh yah, TIE Fighter was better than the original X-wing. Although I played that in the collector's series (win95 version) So I thought it didn't qualify to say in this thread.
But yah, Missle boat was nice. Just that I'm not the type of person who likes to use warheads often since you have limited ammo for those, and reloading takes FOREVER when you run out.
TIE Advanced all the way for me though. Enough speed and laser power for anything, and a warhead load for the unlucky surprises.
Colonization!
Jill of the Jungle, anyone?
Daggerfall. The first RPG I played. It was amazing. Hundreds of different monsters, spells, dungeons. It was like an MMORPG before the Internet came to be. The world was so large and they thought of everything. You could become a vampire or a warewolf, enchant weapons, join guilds.
Hell, the actual story line was optional. I never actually beat the game, but there was so much else to do, it didn't matter.
Inherit the Earth: Quest for The Orb. 'Nuff said.
Darkland (kinda like baldurs gate)
F-19 (Flight sim)
Xargon Trilogy (2d action)
Raptor : Call of the Shadow (Shmup)
Colonization (THE BEST strategy game in the world)
Monkey Island!!!!
Commander Keen (2d action)
Stronghold (strategy-rpg)
>>22
Every try the sequel, F117A?
>>23 oh yes, even better, but for some reason, F117 Much heavier >.<, F-19 Much more agile
Descent.
Crusader: No Regret
Taking me back to the late 80s early 90s here....
The Hugo games- You know...it was like an adventure game and you solve puzzles. I can't explain it. But it was fun. Kind of like something sierra made but more low budget.
Covert Action- It was like 24 before 24 ever existed. Hmm...should I infiltrate this embassy with the Beretta M9 or the UZI? tough call...NOT! UZI 4 YOU!
Chuck Yeager's Air Combat- Just because it lets you fight Stukas with MiG 17s...
Wing Commander - Before it got all lame...Wing Commander was THE space flight sim. Spirit ruled.
Silent Service II- I stayed up for HOURS and HOURS past midnight trying to sink the Japanese Subs....Especially the nigh mythical yamato class....
Budokan- It let you dry different martial arts and was reasonably accurate. I loved jump kicking people in the head.
Elite- NO old PC game list is complete without Elite. Hehe...I remember evading the cops while smuggling guns and arcturan megaweed.
X-Com- The flying suit and plasma rifles were awesome. So were the autopsies...
man...they just don't make 'em like that anymore....
hey budokan is a really cool game :3, coz i can't afford to purchase prince of persia at that time XD
Nobody's mentioned Master of Magic yet? Wow...
Star Control 2. Best game ever.
Tyrian 2000. The company went out of business, but the game they made was a pretty fun top-down arcade shooter. It's easy to find online.
I really loved playing Raptor: Call of the shadows. I guess you can still purchase it lol (http://www.3drealms.com/raptor/index.html) Still a fun game I tried playing it about a week ago on XP but the sound didn't work. I'm sure I could figure something out to make it work.
Liero v. 1.33

dosbox
Ka-ka-ka-ka-KARATEKA!!
...die and look like a sleeping chicken.
I <3 Colonization, still play it lol. And also Civilization too.
Wolfenstein 3D. I just love killing Nazi's.
doom. killing ze demonz
I live for Silpheed and Space Quest.
ah soo many memories, all these games are the reason I keep my 486 running...
the original Wing Commander owned.
Bio-Menace was one of my favs along with Paganitzu and EGATrek, Hugo's House of Horrors, Blake Stone, which I belive was made on the Wolf3D engine, Test Drive II w/the musclecars addon, Sierra's *Quest games.
www.scummvm.org is a great program for running many of the old point and click adventure games. (Day of the Tentacle, Sam&Max)
and you can download hundreds of classic games at www.dosgamesarchive.com
www.the-underdogs.info
oh and Leisure Suit Larry!!!
( ゚ ヮ゚) Quarantine!
Cliff Hanger and his brother Coat!
Oh, that was C64...
If you're a wargamer, the old Steel Panthers series from SSI was awesome in multiple senses of the word. Imagine the Advanced Squad Leader boardgame from Avalon Hill, but actually playable.
Too bad the AI was retarded.
I think Matrix Games / Shrapnel Games has rewritten some of them and ported them to Windows.
( ゚ ∀゚) kitamittens!
Yeah so many good DOS games. Love me some Heretic and Hexen. Also Abuse, Wolf3D and Blake Stone, classic Doom, Master of Orion and Master of Magic, classic Warcraft (Warcraft II especially), tons of Apogee shit like Bio Menace, Crystal Caves, Hocus Pocus, Mystic Towers; Vinyl Goddess From Mars, Xargon...
>No mention of System Shock
It is genuinely the best game ever made. Its spiritual successor, Terra Nova, is fantastic too.
>>48
This is the first time I've heard Terra Nova described as a spiritual successor to System Shock, I thought it was a mech battle game?
>>49
It is, but the game itself plays a lot like a faster, action-focused System Shock.
Crystal Caves is apparently getting an update with an added episode. Looks decent.
i am a heron. i ahev a long neck and i pick fish out of the water w/ my beak. if you dont repost this comment on 10 other pages i will fly into your kitchen tonight and make a mess of your pots and pans
