The Penumbra tech demo was rather memorable for me in this regard.

I keep meaning to check out the other games, now that the dev has bothered to make it into an actual commercial series, but I've never gotten around to it. lol

It is overlooked, but I think Home Alone 2 is the scariest game on NES.
